after summer holidays, when all the kids (new potential userbase) start classes again and have less time to play games? Why not release it before summer ends for fuck's sake.
Yeah, I already played through it on Windows a few years ago. Privateer was amazing! Definitely sunk so many hours into that as a kid, and I regret nothing.
Well, they reissued privateer and made it compatible with windows, I think they may have just bundled a version of myJEMM or something with it, but for people who are having issues getting it to work on Windows might be an option.
And yeah, tachyon OP. Man.... I am so sad that Privateer 3 and the online version got axed. But Roberts Space Industries is all set to replace that!
lots and lots of XvT but not online much. I quit it within a few days because I couldn't progress at all.
I wanted to progress, so I chose to fight better ranked players, none of them were actually better than me so they quit, which didn't count as a win for me (at the time, no idea if they fixed that later) :(
bloody match making always an issue somewhere... Hope they are going to bring "achievements" across from QL to Steam too, cus I don't fancy doing them all again.
The thing with today's gamers, is they do not realise the intense gameplay and graphics and hardware advancements, Let alone, how amazingly easy their experiences have been made with SLPB status as standard and FREE (near enough). With us, having the 14.4k, 28.8, 56k modems as an amazing experience. (But a massive phone bill at the end, god I remember I had "thousands AND THOUSANDS" to pay in phone bills when Quake came on-line.)
Recently at my mother's place, I was helping her clean out some of my old junk and I stumbled on a box of boot disks that I used to play various games way back... omg memories! hehe.
Oh, to be back in those days when it took like 30 hours of work to even get a game running <3
If Quake is going to dumb itself down with these new updates, then you may as well just play that new COD game or Titanfall instead.
It'll be essentially the same experience, except QL will have worse graphics, smaller community, worse interface, no matchmaking, worse servers etc etc etc. The list goes on.
If Quake is going to lose it's defining gameplay attributes, then it'll actually have nothing to offer over competitors. Quake Live makes up for it's lack of modern flair with it's superior hardedged competitive gameplay, take that away and it actually has zero advantage in the market.
gg guys. You officially lost me.
how is packing 9 weapons all the time any better than a 2 or 3 weapon system where 2 weapons are all you need like it was in quakeworld. even duke nukem forever had 2 weapon system, and it didnt look any worse, all you have to do is balance the guns so that you dont have to pack all the guns all the time, which does look bad. quake 3 guns are not really fun because they dont have 2 fire modes, and switching takes time, a limited 2 weapon system mayb actually make the game less glitchy in that sense that you will alyways have dilemma of switching to a different gun midgame and cause delay during a closeupfight just cause you think 1 of your 9 guns is better. a better solution would be maybe giving damage boost to your primary and secondary guns, with possible levelups depending how long you use them, so you still have 9 guns but only 2 guns that have acceptable damage.
i played q3 since 2001, i really dont care how many weapons the game has, something needs to be changed, 9 weapons or 2, i still think it reallly isnt going to change how many people will play it, people got used to the overall feel of the game, notsome specific rules, if we look at the game there really is only maybe 3 weapons that are must have which are lighting gun, railgun and rocket launcher, plus mg as a finishing gun, which already is there, so i assume there will be a gauntlet, machinegun + 2 weaps of your choice, and ammo packs on the map + weapons that can replace those 2
in qw btw there is only rl and lg used, the rest is equal to mg, and i see almost no difference in gameplay, its still a high skill gamewith just one gun,
I can't tell you how it's going to be because the NDA police aka Yakumo works for id for free and reads everything but I can tell you it's not gonna be like that.
Well, we really still don't know what the update will entail. 'Loadouts' seem certain, but weapon spawns will still exist. Several modes in the leaked dev tracker are identified as being untouched/updated settings. I'm not sure what that means other than possibly denoting the weapon changes. So we will we have Q3 style weps as opposed to QL. Game will be splashier. I prefer QL now, but I recall getting back into Quake with QL, and finding it frustrating I couldn't easily bounce->LG->RG finish which was bread and butter in Q3. So, I think it will be fun for juggling to return. As to the auto-bunny thing. It will just make new meat, meatier. Just easy LG/RG targets. They will probably rethink this, once the game is released and new players just get chewed up alive by decent aimers that view someone in air as a present...and the new mode settings sorta suggest players they are trying to draw should always be holding jump? Sign me up for this massacre made for me.
Something does bother me is HMG. If you can hitscan well, MG is sorta perfectly powered. A beefier MG would really break things. You wouldn't need loadouts in the first place. If you can hit high 30's low 40's with MG NOW, you are a dangerous nuisance that someone will leave alone. You can't really force a fight, but you can make someone think twice, or really punish them if they decide to eat the damage for the kill. Now imagine if MG was any stronger. Seems balance breaking in the wep department.
I just joined a server. It ain't that bad at all, loadouts were disabled though. I'm happy they let the pro spawned servers free to everyone. So it's all ok and I think I like it.
They did state clearly in the anouncement post that the big ass update we're all trying now, would be weeks before the steam release.
This is obviously so they can see how it all goes and bugfix/modify etc, they want the steam release to go as well as it possibly can given their current resources.
Sadly changes a lot of current players don't like, isn't going to get them reversed if they still feel overall it will increase their steam user retention more than their loss, as that has to be their goal.
