Huds support widescreen now, custom huds will need modding.
you can go into the hud and set everything to widescreen 0 to just make it how it was, or update the positions of things instead to make it fit widescreen properly.

ranked/unranked only matters for the statistics anyway. But some players are philosophically opposed to anything non-default. I mean, there can be good reasons. Like if you're playing competitively you need a single ruleset to play on with your competitors and it can be a bad idea to corrupt your instincts with different weapon damages, etc even outside of competition. That said, few players are in that case.

HMG's dps is lower than the 6dmg lg.

hmg 12 x 8, 96dps
lg 20 x 6, 120dps

it's 80 % of lg.

If your LG acc was 40% you'd need 50%hmg acc to be doing the same damage, but the lg's probably going to get it's last hit in sooner anyway.

Also hmg has quite big spread, lg remains the strongest hitscan in ql.
Now lg dps potential is similar to rl (125), which is good imho.

Close range there is no lg lag though, easier to hit. I would probably use lg medium range and hmg close range. Better than sg imo.

They're both hitscan, with pixel wide collision detection.
The sole difference is the graphic and the rate of fire (and 'cell' damage of course but that doesn't effect aim)
If you see lag, then you've set cg_truelightnign at something other than 1, which shows a jiggly beam which is not actually where it's firing.

1 is the most accurate because of the unlagged code, anything else 'helps' because placebo / model leaning out of hitbox/weird prediction mess.

Wat. LG has built in lag, do you not know that? cg_truelightning 0 is how lg ACTUALLY fires. Changing the graphic just makes it look nicer to use, it doesn't change how it fires. I believe there is like a 50ms delay for turning.

You might not see lag any more, but it is still there. You got it the wrong way round.

I'd have to confer with sync on this turning delay but I don't think there's anything added to the LG like that any more if there was, anyone messing with cg_filter_angles was adding it for themselves.

As for truelightning the developers have flat out stated that cg_truelightning 1 is the most accurate with the unlagged style code they have, and that in fact cg_truelightnign 0 is and I quote "entirely broken"
I put that in my QL guide maybe 5 years ago after talking to either TTimo or Syncerror and it's still the case the last time I talked to sponge about it.

It's a completely different animal in QL than in Q3A that's for sure.

I guess the netcode is such that TLG0 picks up all kinds of crazy fluctuations.

As for turning delay the only place I can think that you would get 50 ms is from sv_fps 20 (old q3 value). Since sv_fps is 40 in QL, it would be 25 ms, but this isn't some kind of clientside turning delay, it's the delay caused by the net/server time. With prediction and backwards reconciliation it's all screwy though. Hard to say what the effective latency would actually be.

assuming you ping below 80 and their implementation of unlagged is actually done as it should be, the effective latency is 0.

I've had a similar issue, where I felt that only TL=0 is good enough. Turns out I had a cvar set wrong that completely fucked me over. make sure that cg_nopredict is set to 0

Maybe the only mode that was really improved by loadouts instead of set spawn weaps for all.

I have played quite some DOM games 200+ in the past 2 months and was spawning server for it (samplerserver) and I liked it much more before, talked to the most 'regular guys' on DOM and most of them feels the same..if they give me an option to spawn ranked server for the 'old DOM' I am pretty sure it will be full like before..of course for new players of DOM or for those who played few games they wont care or see much difference, but I was used to the old DOM and this new one is quite different..I am not saying the new one is bad but I preferred it before it was just perfect!, at least they should give as an option to spawn ranked server for the DOM with noselfdmg and allwpns as before I don't see a problem in that and lets just see what will be played more maybe i will be surprised =)..but most server settings are now unranked : (, so for now it seems that I don't have a choice but to play the new DOM and see how it goes =), perhaps I'll come around and like it - to soon to tell =)

While I agree that default Classic/Turbo could be ranked... I gotta say I can't see why ranked/unranked is that relevant. Do you think people won't join your server if it's unranked?

true i should try it just to see, but of course ppl prefer ranked servers cause the competition feeling, the stats are part of the game to some depth, on the other hand for ex. iFT is very popular, full servers all the time and it's unranked =)

2nd - and what probably bothers me most on this update is that they made almost all server settings now unranked, they took aways all control for server spawners, cant modify anything really, something needed to be forced so the new things are played i do understand that but something just dont make sense - each mode settings should be checked thoroughly seperately and decided what should be ranked and what not like with the DOM it definitely wont hurt anyone to give us an option to spawn ranked server with noselfdmg and allwpns-loadouts disabled, the same with infected etc..I am hoping some modes settings revision what can be ranked will come soon in another update..

To be honest I'm really hoping they're just intentionally putting off even talking about considering it, to push as many people as possible into giving the new stuff a proper shot.

"Classic" imo is something like a vintage car, nice to look at, but you can't really get good mileage out of it, nor is it up to date with other modern titles. (perhaps, ironically that might be the answer?)

"Hardcore" imo is what most top DM players with friendly fire off, is all about. So its hard skill level / "hardcore", for advanced players.

"Hardcore" is used in CoD/BF (and maybe other games) and has a reputation as a newb mode though. Wouldn't want people thinking real Quake is some newb mode!

They left duel as it is, you do not have to be pro to play classic ruleset as far as i understood it. I did not feel the movement change at all, manual strafe jumping is still clearly superior.

Played couple FFAs - in terms of attractting new people they are actually doing good job. New players will just jump in and have insta fun from spawn with HMG, also spawn timers are well done and will serve for this purpose nicely.
So I actually think that devs are going right direction. If these changes will fail to bring and hold new players, well it is time for QL to go then.
Ofc hardcore FFA players are upset, but they still can host classic for their skill level.

Don't have any issues with the updates so far that I've seen. QL has always been bit more of a casual game for me, playing FFA and DOM was brainless but fun.

I think they must have increased snaps/sv_fps to 60 with these changes. I think it used to be 30 (or 40? can someone confirm?). You would need 60 to have the MG fire 10 times per second, HMG 12/sec, and LG 20/sec.

snaps was removed as you would find if you pull it from and cfg files and then reset your config.

My lagometer seems to be racked. It´s not a perfect square anymore.
I have the feeling that some other visuals and shapes in the game also look different. i can´t tell what it is exactly, its more a feeling.
Input also feels a bit different, i dont yet if its better or worse. I would say its a bit more responsive.

Okay, so update. I played a few more games online.

The HMG is a farce, it's a retarded OP weapon, designed for idiots who can't aim. At midrange it's spread will actually mitigate a player's bad aim. It's really poorly balanced too. In pub CA, if a group of players coordinate and just charge with HMG holding down fire, they'll cut any player into pieces in seconds. It's really, really imbalanced.
Absolutely terrible. I have nothing good to say about the addition of this gun. Like, not a single thing. It is dogshit.

I played a few games of FFA, and it is absolutely disgusting now.
Together with TDM, FFA was my favorite mode, I really loved the whole dynamic of it... now it's absolutely skill-less. From the few games I played, all I saw was bad players camping spawns with the RL or LG loadout.
Running items is useless since now the spawns have turned into absolute moshpits. Since players can spawn with RL, trying to control any area is absolutely useless. They've also nerfed the rail loadout already, so you'll basically be at the mercy of some noob charging you with HMG. Shotgun loadout fares really poorly too. I've got pretty good aim, and I was getting overpowered really quick.
I tried running items as best I could in a game where every idiot can just spawn and charge you with RL, but despite getting RA and setting up for Quad, which I had timed to the second, the guy I killed to secure the area just charged right back in with RL again off spawn, and then the next guy spawned near me and did the same... forget it.

The fact that pub CA features the HMG means that there is no way to avoid this shitness.
Also the 'autohop' is really buggy and actually changes normal movement now. Check it out for yourself, try hopping up stairs and see what happens lol.

As a casual FFA/CA player the game is dead to me, I tried to like it, I really tried.
I'm done with it. It ruinned all the aspects I personally liked about these two mods, especially FFA.
QL was pretty much the only video game I ever played. I wanted a reason to quit QL, I have it now. Thank's ID or whoever decided to dumb the game down.

I still have little hope they revert the modifications they made to FFA. I think loadout is good for FT and other mods but not for FFA. As for the universal ammo pack i find it disgracious and it is the first time i see this in an ARENA SHOOTER.

I was 1v2 in a CA last night, and figured in order to have a shot at winning i would bait/wait them out. So the timer went and they won because they had 2 players and i was 1. These quakecon rules are retarded imo. There is no chance in hell a single guy can make a comeback now, this kills off the fun that can be had making amazing comebacks. Its catering to the newbs a bit too much :p

There's been a round timer for well over a year iirc, maybe even two or more.
It defaults to 180 seconds.
You get a little red 10 second count down timer in the last ten seconds

when the round timelimit hits it always ended up in a draw regardless of how many players were still left. now ironically its more of a hardcore tournament setting where damage/kills are even more important compared to the lone guy having a shot at killing all enemies.
so depending on how you look at it, newbies that have more health/more players left wont have to do anything. on the flipside, theres no more 1v2 or 1v3 comebacks making public servers more fun to get a chance at winning.

i strongly prefer having a chance at a comeback over most-players-win-they-can-just-sit-and-camp-it-out.

Honestly, I would go back to the way it was. There is nothing wrong with the situation where the team that has 2 players left, to go out and find the 1 remaining guy. After all, if they use their brains they can box someone in and attack him from the front and the back simultaniously.

That and slightly reduce the general round time limit. CA should be about instant action, if people want to camp then those who died early shouldnt have to suffer that much :>

Seems like one of those things they'd never actually implement.

I think I'd rather do just a 'sudden death' type mode if there are more than two draws in a series where it will count health alone, but include the health of all remaining players. So 2v1 it will be difficult for the remaining guy to get the win because he will have to have more health than both the remaining guys.

I just don't see draws as a big problem. They aren't that common, and if the map isn't far too large for the player count it should be fine.

Maybe in the extreme case there could be some kind of proximity detector, where it would tell you if you were at least in the correct "half map" vicinity where the remaining enemy is. Again not the kind of thing they'd implement imo.

Do keep in mind it needs to be something that works well for tier1/2 players that can't find their way around the map at all, as well as tier4.

I'm guessing they used to have a lot more round draws at lower levels and disinterest in sitting watching so long was damaging the gametype, and thus player numbers overall.

depends on how tiers are mixing due to amount of players in diffrent regions, i wouldnt wonder if there are t2 + t3s coming up in the same servers, then what?

I think it should be skilled based. Then we have to ask each other is there a way, this can be exploited by more knowledgeable players?

My naive thinking would be, enable/disable certain features as your skillrating is above certain point. But there is the problem of new players getting into mid skill range (maybe additional factor of 10 played games can be factored in).

Any statistic from anyone about the QL users decrease/increase since the 2.0 version release ?

I just saw one review. It can be summarize easily in 2 points: 1) good they do something to try to change QL fate 2) fate is still for QL to disappear.

there are, but ur not gonna get them. the only thing ive seen sync/sponge say about active players on QL is how many accounts were made in the last 300 years. something in that direction anyway.

I haven't had inet gaming access since before these changes and won't have for another 2 weeks. Been reading all this with tears in my eyes and jaw to the floor at the stupidity of it all... When I finally get my inet back, I'll try it out, but honestly I can't see myself liking any of these changes, and I'll probably just have to cancel my sub and start browsing CPMA servers :(

After years and years of good suggestions (and admittedly quite a lot of crap ones too), sponge et al ignore all that knowledge and effort by experienced players and lessons learned from what doesn't work in other games too e.g shitmania, and TADA! they come up with this!?

If they wanted to make the game more noob friendly, all they needed to do for non duel modes was to just up the starting HP and Armor and leave everything else the same. Ofc that would also make it easier for the better players, but at least like that the noobs would at least get to move and try to play a little before getting fragged. This would allow them to learn more quickly - it's really difficult for anyone to learn the game if you are getting fragged and respawning every 5 sec...

Instead of nerfing the LG they could have just reduced the total ammo for it, so you had to use it sparingly etc. All this would have been good subtle changes that could have improved the game rather than ruining it...

You mostly play Clan Arena.
You'll probably almost entirely ignore the HMG, and then you'll find you don't care about any of the changes.

Just think about the poor noobs thinking they're playing Quake...

Noobs FFA arcade game now. "I killed Yakumo, I'm a leg-end" a noob shouts. Never would have happened b4 these changes, very sad.

... mostly... But my preferred gametype is CTF and just because I like CA doesn't mean that the 10s of thousands of games I play between my 2 accounts in other game modes don't matter to me... It would be like me saying you mostly play FFA noob farming so it shouldn't matter much to you either.

But that aside the point of my post above is that there have been years of well thought out ideas and suggestions posted here and on the quakelive forums, and after all that effort and thought by so many people - this is what they come out with? Honestly... what a load of bollox.

The people that sponge mainly listened to are yakumo, flashsoul and lorfa.

No there are many others, and "listen to" doesn't mean "follow the advice of".

The health of noobs is almost irrelevant when you're shooting them down. They would only die one second later. That would also reduce even further their likelihood of getting a frag. The opposite might hava worked though : starting everyone on like 25 hp. Then even a terrible player would have a chance at getting a frag even if he would himself die faster.

Just think about how the QWCTF community felt, when the Grapple was taken away (the one weapon that balanced out the speed of the game / noob friendly equation). Take away one of your favourite weapons, "completely", then you'll know pure loss and suffering.

So I'm still gonna get raped at duel and the one mode I rocked the world at anyway is the one they make easier for noobs to kill me.
