Surfing looks more or less identical from game to game. It seems to me people surf in the game they play (tf2,csgo, etc.), not the otherway around (i.e. started off surfing and then moved on to regular play).

If the reflex team thought marketing surfing would bring in funding; I'm sure they would have done it.

Further, it depends on each particular game. Not all 'arena shooters' are liked by everyone, just like cpm has 17 players for a reason.

in my experience, hopping around from cs go, to bf, to planetside (no cod tho, not since cod1) there is a reverence for arena shooters. I think it probably started by older players who have played the game passing on their experience to younger players who now don't know the game and aren't going to play something noone play anymore. What this manifests as is when you hear people talk about certain config settings (cm/360, keybinding, fov, etc) it's not rare to see someone referencing some quake player's settings as some gold standard simply because they play quake. So yeah I do think a good arena shooter can draw in realism shooter players just from curiosity. Then it's up to the actual implementation of the game that determines if they stay (note implementation and not how easy it is to play, too many games are stupidly difficult and frustrating but wildly popular so I do not buy at all easy->population).

From my point of view even if I have allready backed up majority doesn't want to fund it, why?
Because in my experience when I was talking to some of my friends about donating to KS they in most cases are waiting for product to be allready funded, when the project is funded people allready know it's a success and they dont mind giving it some extra money to it.

By doing so and waiting to be funded there is probably around 100-150k of AUD just waiting to be donated due to this circumstances.

Kickstarter is ok, but they should have gone with funny campaign asking half the price of current amount, that way they would have get what they are asking for atm.

Also if people aren't backing up allready, give MORE DAILY UPDATES, show more videos, make a 2times casting with devs on twitch stream one for AU and USA so that people can connect in some respectable time and ask the devs questions through online twitch stream, make a fun 2v2 tourney with alpha testers, duel, ctf (if the mode is allready available and coded), also don just show how concept art is lookin of the final product, put textures to already made maps with 2-3 versions of "semi-final" look to it so people can see it in action.

They said speed runs, ok, how about few maps with those speed runs so we can see how it looks like? Mini map showing movement tricks and weapon tricks?

There is still time for this to be funded, but just waiting for donations....doubt it...it's been a week, 2 updates in 2 days with allready known information and 5days of silence....wake up pls because community wants your game :)

Updates on the KS page show that developers are involved with community and they are really trying to sell the product, presenting with new infos and other materials to showcase more stuff and those things lets the backer easier to back up.

They have repeatedly stated on esr Reflex won't be a cpm clone and while the base is cpm at the moment this is just so they can.. build it into something else.

Even if they don't have videos, some sort of vision where the gameplay is going that is not cpm would be cool.

How will movement differ, how will weapons differ, how will pickups and items differ, and so on.

Exactly, as I have stated before:
-give us few concept weapon models
-make few speed run maps and show us what you had in mind
-make a mini map full of mini jumps and trick jumps to showcase the movement more
-few of the current enviromental models which where shown in the pictures, well implement at least 2 version of the same map but with different textures so we can see how it looks like in action...

so many things, if this is the KS campaign devote 100% time an effort on KS so we can see all the stuff you had in mind, and not just on paper, even a vague concept inside the game is better than nothing.

If Reflex was made by someone witch an actual name in the industry, 360k wouldn't be an issue. Mighty No 9 is a decent example of that. Although, there were far more fans of the side-scroll than the arena shooter, but still...

If you had Romero or Carmack helping with Reflex, or one of the main devs, and not some random collection of Australian nobodies (no offense), it'd be more likely. Unfortunately, the Reflex IRC channel isn't so hot on reality and it's too bad they are asking for 360k.

As always, difference between popular games like Dayz SA although they didnt have a kickstarter they had so many players which gives a % of so many fanatics that pour money into the game. Here its only the few diehards, with few % of diehards that pour money into it. Sad to say, arena DM isn't the future. They wont reach the goal. I'm sad.

Unfortunately even I did backed up, I can allready see that after 11days the KS campaign is only managed to score 1/6 part of the amount they need, and at this moment this doesn't look any good. :/

I don't understand why they aren't doing updates. There is a ton of stuff they could talk about. If they had 20 updates like the movement video ready to go they might even had made the goal. :-/

Well in my opinion during the 30day campaign they should have all pitched in and make daily updates.
For updates: they could have:
- make au-north/south america stream like Talk to developers. so that people can come to twitch and talk to them.
- same thing for europe-africa

some gameplay of 2v2 mini tourney.
maybe even make a level or two populated with textures not to show only prototype without them
or concept art for weapons
so many things.

they should have planned the strategy for KS better, prepare the material for 20 days long updates and ask for 150 not 360...that way...well the goal would go beyond :)
