As far as I know there are a bunch of new changes to the map editor, but I dont use the map editor so I couldnt tell you what they are. Its generally just becoming more polished.

Since the first buyable version it now has weapon models and an art style.

There are enough assets for mappers to be making maps with different themes (japanese style, industrial, gothic)

The game now has CTF which is pretty great and some CTF maps unique to reflex as well as some quake ports

Its had some movement revisions, so many in fact that I cant remember what the original was like and how this differs

I've heard talks of cosmetics, not sure if they are coming next patch or not. Def mentioned something about proper map selection screen with names and images and stuff

Since the first version there have been tons of balance tweaks but they happened so long ago its hard to remember. A major one probably being how the LG works (higher ROF, lower DMG)

I guess from a player standpoint the best things coming to the game aside from the major patches are the maps. Every week theres a new duel map to try. I very rarely see people playing Quake maps anymore because there are so many good reflex maps out there now (PRDM3 and XY2 are some recent good maps)

Still playing every night, the games getting better and better each patch and new community content is filling the gaps in between. There are lots of other smaller things I didnt mention that have made the game feel more polished and through the months of bug fixing I'm sure your crashing bug is sorted now

I'm always playing people on my friends list so I almost never look at the server list, but whenever they arent online I can find a game easily enough. Also discord is pretty handy if you want to find opponents of certain skill levels

Yep, pretty much. Except maybe after 03:00, but then you can play on NA Eastcoast servers. The netcode allows you to play with 90 ping (the ping that you would get to a NY server), and it feels like 60 ping in QL

Most nights there are a couple of good duelers online from about 5pm til 10-11ish. The rest of the time it's mostly new players.

i loved cpm and reflex, but haven't touched the game since the 0.37.0 patch, which introduced some questionable changes to the game physics.

they increased the player size for unknown reasons and now it feels like you're a giant roaming around in tiny maps. the patch also made the movement extremely floaty and unresponsive for unknown reasons, which made the game feel really bad if you're used to cpm physics, especially in the defrag/race mode.

they might have reverted these changes in a recent patch, dunno, but for a cpm-driven team to fuck up the movement physics this monumentally is quite disappointing.

I think they should be given the chance to experiment, especially while the game is in early access and not at a 1.0 release. Its not "fucked up" if they try something out, realise its not what they want and then revert it.

Personally I liked the 0.37.0 movement, but I also like the movement now that its been reverted. They both had their merits.

0.37.0 movement was great for CTF. Stopped it being so easy to cap flags, the lower gravity made it so you could pull off some cool tricks with the extra airtime and height you could get off of double or triple jumps.

I think the reverted movement we have now is better for duel. Tight crisp movement, faster.

Play for a little while and it stops feeling like this. If you didnt play much before 0.37 you wont even notice and it wont feel like youre a giant. Its just the instant comparison going from one patch to the other that made it so jarring.

I think people that are having issues with the new player size are still playing older maps (CPM22), which haven't been updated. Play newer maps, specifically those that are built for/in reflex, and you should have those issues.

As for changes, the best change has been the netcode, which is arguably the best EVAR.....

Yeah by revert I mean they stopped it being floaty and got rid of the air control nerf. I dont know how the movement differs from 0.36, but it feels good still

We increased the player size (primarily) because we changed from standard AABB hitboxes to capsule shaped hitboxes and the increased player sizes give roughly the same surface area to aim at (just far more consistent at different angles). If we didn't make that change, there would have been a lot of people complaining that they couldn't hit anything anymore.

I also don't think you realize that Reflex movement is already noticeably different to CPMA movement -- in some ways, 0.37 was actually closer to CPMA then 0.36 was. During testing of the post-0.37 tweaks, I put movement in that was a 1:1 match to CPMA for lulz and the feedback was mostly negative.

Game development is always iterative. You do a first pass, you tweak some stuff, you implement some new things, you tweak everything again, etc. Gameplay is no exception to this. This is why the CPMA changelog is 4500 lines, split into 100+ releases that span a decade.

During that time, we also saw plenty of people who "haven't touched the game since X" because the developers "fucked it up" for "no reason".

This included things like making the physics no longer FPS-dependant, reducing the railgun damage to 80 and plenty of other things that were supposed to be the death of the game but overwhelmingly resulted in far better gameplay in the long run.

If you want an exact match for CPMA, just play CPMA. Reflex is going to be testing, tweaking and changing things to make a better game and that's not something you can just magically do in a single release.

This stuffs gone now. Its different to both 0.36 and 0.37.0 now, but the gravity is back up and the powerful air control is back. Its still different, but its not floaty and the air control isnt nerfed anymore
