The point of that one is so people can have a way of supporting the devs if they want to and getting an item out of it at the same time.
Lots of people who are really into Reflex have asked about donating or have bought multiple copies for giveaways and stuff but something like this is a good way to give a reasonable amount of money and have something to show for it
Completely optional, just there for those who want to help out
It's only for the gold one (the blue one is the same price as all the other weapons). Like neeple said, it's basically a way for people to donate money and actually get something back, however minor.
Also, I think he was referring to the irony of that "dead game" comment considering people paid subscription fees (or re-purchased since they probably already owned Q3) to play QL.
It usually depends on if people like the game or not. Also, they have to know it exists. Very few people are interested in the genre in the first place so these results aren't really surprising. Even the biggest game on the market has, as xerosawyer pointed out, quite a small population compared to CS:GO. Well, to be fair, only one game on Steam, Dota 2, doesn't have a small population compared to CS:GO so choosing this game in particular to illustrate his point was kinda ridiculous.

Probably is if you're running out of money to make the game. I dont know if they are struggling or not but money from this should help if people are so inclined
We don't really consider it a major feature from the development side
Code wise it took about as much work as all the extra input settings and fixes and art side it provided a good opportunity to tweak our art style (the new cosmetics look noticably better than the base weapons, only now we have to to-do list on how to improve those too).
Really, most of the development time has gone into the next pass on the menus in preparation of adding things like matchmaking, training, XP, workshop, etc.
Haven't really decided yet to be honest. It might also differ depending on ranked or "unranked" (which will still be skill matched anyway).
Ultimately, it's not something that's difficult to change so we could easily just run a season with a certain ranking algorithm and if we're not happy with it, run the next season with a different one.
This is the fairest way to earn money to me. Better than ads, pay-to-win and all that crap. But yes, seems kind of pointless in such a small community (at the moment).
