I forced myself to play this for a few hours again to have a basis for critique and boy was it hard. Most underwhelming boring crap ever. QC had shit visibility because everything is full of contrast and detail, but it at least has custom color outlines... now DB has shit visibility because everything is flat and bland which is probably even worse, because it's visually fkn hyper-boring.

Hardly any players, but the game puts them on way to big, needlessly overcomplicated maps, that for some mysterious reason have hardly any ammo/weapons on them. 80% of the time you run around seeing nobody, doing nothing, than you run around ammo starved having nothing, like they want to make sure it's boring and annoying at the same time. Maps design is terrible, uselessly big bland maps, which have the usual effect: everyone always goes to the same 1-2 spots to fight on big map, so the game is like overwatch, you respawn and walk to the "point", lmao.

I don' get what's the hype around the input, the mouse feels terrible, no matter how much I fidgeted with the settings I couldn't settle on something that is a good balance between using rl, lg and rail etc. This never-ever happened to me. It just has crap mouse dynamics, it's never flat, always has some sort of accel, positive or negative... and if you try accel, even with the povohat driver, it's accel on top of accel, the worst I ever experienced. It's almost as bad as QC at it's start, but QC right now is is way-way better. Many playes stutter like crazy.

You queue, you get put on map with a single other player and run around in warmup forever without any more coming in or the game moving you on to something better. You pick up "quad", you shoot a bunch of sphere's that go up in puff of smoke but you hardly notice anything happened the sound and visuals dynamics are so flat and boring. I just gave up, at least in QC something like fighting for quad/fragging with quad is somewhat thrilling, not even talking about QL ar QW...

The part about mouse input seems strange to me. It feels great for me and many others have also stated how great the mouse input feels.

It was especially easy to switch from QL to DB, for me it is basically the same and I am *very* picky regarding mouse input.
I suspect an actual bug or setup problem with your PC, like driver issue.

What is that part with accel about? Using external and internal accel at the same time, what? Who would do that? You are inventing problems at this point, no game is to blame if the user does such stupid shit...

I did not use internal and external accel at the same time. I'm hyper picky about mouse things too, and I do not have this problem in other games. Even in QC where you feel like you need to fidget because sense seems to change form lag/fps etc, still feels more responsive, the turns are more exact. I do not have any "driver issues".

It can only be one or the other. Either your setup is different in some aspect, or dbt mouse input is shitty in general, which it is not. At the contrary, more people are praising it than having actual issues.

My advice would be to recheck your mouse related settings one more time. Kovaak drivers still installed? Any additional mouse drivers? Unusual win settings? Did you try all the Diabotical ingame options, disable mutlti-threaded input and so on?

Sry but that's bs, even if need to fiddle it's never this problematic in any other game, so it's not a driver issue. You don't need any drivers for usb mice, so I stopped installing them long-looong ago. I dunno how many complained, but I watched many players play dbt by now, I noticed how even aim monster's acc looks very mediocre in this game. They are visibly struggling.

disabling multithreaded input first, switching between mouse input modes if there is such a thin in dbt, change your dpi and see if it feels different. Try differen pitch/yaw values.

I play with accel in general. My conclusion is that DB's own accel is unusable, at least for me. Turning it off and using povohat makes it feel a lot better, but it's still knda bad. Btw I watched quite a few streaming DB, and I see them struggling like me, even if they might not realize it. Aim monster players have crappy stats, get fragged by noobs left&right.

Who do you mean? I saw Killsen, Rapha, Dahang, Vengeur mopping the floor with everyone as usual. Maybe cypher did not his usual ownage self the last dbt stream I watched of him, but he was killing it some time before winning test tourney, so.

I've played with accel all my life and diabotical's input and accel are an absolute blessing compared to the aids that was ql's sponge accel. Consistent, responsive, fantastic.

And which players are you referring to? Cypher and k1llsen are hitting everything as usual.

I don't know what alternate universe you live in, I watched cypher, killsen, vengeur and they looked terrible compared to even QC which supposedly has trash input. They looked near useless with RL and their LG looked like someone who's just started using mouse. The only person who still kills it is clawz, seems like he is unaffected by anything. Vengeur was losing to total nobodies in aim arena.

Just watched k1llsens most recent vod and he was consistently hitting 50%+ lg and 70%+ rail. That's considered pretty good in my universe.

The only critique I could find was Rapha complaining about negative accel. I did not experience it myself, but I don't want to doubt it might be a thing with some PC's.

Might already be fixed in the meantime.
But for any issues I would advise to contact 2GD studio and submit a bug report, instead of instantly whining and hating. But that would be too helpful and normal I guess

I would maybe believe the pleb's BS here if didn't watch killsen play wipeout for an hour, but I did, when he got into a combat his RL dmg f.e. was mostly abysmal compared to his usual self... but of course the average prole remembers one direct rocket for the next 2 weeks, that's how their brain works. Maybe when hype-fog has lifted from your brains you'll all be able to form a sovereign opinion again.

Why does everything have to be related to input or netcode? My aim is trash coming from ql to dbt and I don't blame either of those. I blame the fact that I'm playing a new game with a new engine which takes time to get used too.

Timing is an artifical skill with no real merit, QC chose to make the times even, DB shows the last 5 sec, those are good progressions, grandpa...

What does "artificial skill" even supposed to mean? Back in QW even remaining match time was 'hidden', if you asked the console it only gave you minutes, so you don't go around solely focusing on spawn trickery in a tight match.

There is no predefined meaning, I meant that it feels forced for me to add +25/+35 to a clock timer in a fast shooter game, like it does not really fit. It is also not a great skill, you can just remember time pairs like 17->42, nothing skilfull, just a hastle you have to do if you want to play competitive.

I liked the QW implementation best, QC is also good because it made timing easier (less annoying) while keeping it as a gameplay element.

The skill part is playing around those/setting up time-pairs, using it against your opponent, not just remembering them.

i'm enjoying it, honestly. I'm still playing some QL but will be migrating permanently to DBT.

Whatever bugs and flaws are currently hindering the flow of the game will be ironed out by 2gd crew, I'm sure.

As to the 'shop', I won't be buying shit from that but to each their own.

on a positive note: Wee-bow 5v5 (variant of instagib) is actually pretty fun!

the crossbow aim has a satisfying learning curve and it's hard to just camp at a distance with it. also the coin collecting aspect discourage camping.

what could be detrimental at this point, is the multitude of similar game modes (weebow vs instagib, extinction vs wipeout, aim vs shaft vs rocket arena). I imagine it gets really confusing for new players. maybe starting with a smaller selection and gradually releasing these would be less so?

gotta disagree on the amount of modes - I think that they bring a good bit of variation into the gameplay, and make it more encouraging for newcomers to stick around - if they get wrecked in something like regular ffa they can try to mess around in the insta modes and get some kills, the fact that they come in few flavors make it less boring for some

take QC and QL for instance - for first two years they had very low variation of modes to play on public, in comparison to Q3 or UT 2k4 servers, where you had a lot of custom made stuff by the community, and a lot of varying mappacks to play on, these games thrived a lot better because there was always something interesting to do on pubs, while in ql/qc you could just keep grinding ffas on like 3-4 maps till you 'git gud' enough to try something else like sac or duel - nevermind QL where ctf was basically dead, and tdm was all about gather channels at best

I was refering specifically to the game modes that clash with each other because they're too similar:
instagib vs weebow
extinction vs wipeout
aim vs shaft vs rocket arena

I think the better option would be to rotate some of them weekly.. too much choice can be intimidating, especially for new players.

Haven't gotten the opportunity to try it out yet, but definitely looks really solid. I absolutely love the artstyle and the environmental diversity; it's nice to see so much variety in the map design. I also really appreciate that the game is trying to do new things like the Weeballs to innovate gameplay, and not just copy-paste previous formulas 100%.

That map editor is going to take a lot of getting used to though, no doubt.

i actually hate that they brought railgun back. it's such a hilariously overpowered weapon that has terrorized every single game it's been brought to, and diabotical is no exception. just because they messed with the starting damage doesn't actually change how the weapon actually works. it's still a powerful source of chip away damage, that's hitscan, that doesn't force you to stay zoomed in or stand still, with a short cooldown.

even if they wanted a hitscan source of chip away damage, why try to ape the bolt action sniper gimmick? why not just base it off of a dmr (designated marksman rifle) and have it do lower overall damage but have more opportunities to shoot since it's semi-auto? that way it would be used like the qw starting shotgun but it would be more accurate, slightly easier to aim, but far less broken than the railgun.

but yeah lets pretend this immature bullshit weapon actually takes skill and export it to every single quake clone. and then act all surprised when the game has 600 players after 2 years.

I like your idea of a dmr rail. Kinda like unreal tournament's shock rifle. Low damage, 2-3 shots per second. We'd see a lot less aimwhoring.

Also a lot less cheating. Railgun is the cheater's weapon of choice. It allows to do damage without taking back. Coupled with wallhack it makes it completely one sided. Lg can't be abused as much, because you're still taking back massive damage most of the times.

you know who complains about the railgun? Those who can't aim or at least predict (for prediction aim). :P

I strongly think that it adds to the game, but every person got his own taste and I can see why some will remove it. Then again, some would also put call of duty weapons in quake, not that I make a comparison here.

Genius reply after me writing about hardcore-sweaty-trying-to-like garbage DB for quite a many hours, mentioning how it's shittier even than poor QC (which at least is mostly fun). DB is just annoying crap. There is such weapon already in the game, the MG. It has zero spread! Like a weak autofire rail.

Rail simply starts too high and stacks too high now. What was wrong with the initial nerf? I'd say nothing, just the netcode was slightly wonky then.
Now the rail slowly but sure becomes the gun that slows games down to snail pace, because you cannot jump around a corner anymore without getting railed three times

I tried it yesterday and enjoyed it. Still play QL quite a bit as I can't aimwhore because I suck at transitioning my aim into different games. Also kind of weird how they just released the game with almost no marketing. Hope they did it for a good reason.

Game is ok'ish but there is still the same underwhelm feature as all AFPS: amount of fucking gamemods. Lets say: first time u enter pubg/apex/OW/FallGuys and u just press one big button "PLAY" and enjoy. Even monkey could complete. In QC/DBTC on start screen firstly u see 96 icons with gamemods, WTF. Should i read 20pages of gamemmodes description wikipedia stuff?! Why u need so much bad gamemodes? Maybe take 1-2 gamemodes and make'em good? Whats the point to divide DBT community in small groups: duelers, ctf'ers, defraggers. Look at FallGuys - its ONE undivided community with amazing main gamemode.

Tbh wipeout/ca should be main competitive mode for DBT for the sake of players/survival.

Its simple, its fun, yet requires skill(aim, movement, organized attacks) at top level.

Timing items is a lost art, and its not coming back. Look at all dead quake games, the last servers populated are CA and instagib servers.

The last standing cpm servers were CA before they went to play vampiric pQL.

The only constantly active servers in warsow is CA/instagib for YEARS, when they introduced bomb&defuse that got popular - you know why? No item pick ups and simple gametype. B&d died as a public gametype type and now only exists in pickup community.

This community screams for tdm/ctf/sacrifice/duel but no one fucking plays it, no new players want to play it - its the sad fucking truth and 2GD should have had that in mind when designing the game. Cater to the casuals, fuck timing items. I'd rather have a watered down CA-only quake clone that has 20 000+ players than a dead quake game where its hard to find matches because "git gud, timing is basic math".

I know how to time items, i been playing tdm and ctf for years, im just telling it how it is. Get off your high horses and make wipeout and 2v2 arena the official eSports modes - gametypes that are easy to learn and gives noobs hope that they too could get good at this.

there definitely should be team modes without resource management, but condensing the entire game to just wipeout is a quick way to kill the game. ca/ra3 is hardly any better for retaining players. it's always been a hub for mentally deranged 30 year old failed counter strike players who want to jerk off to their 60% railgun accuracy and spam n word and call people retards. and that's not going to be popular with mainstream gamers either.

the experience of waiting in spectate mode isn't very fun for new players. they should just ignore competitive play and focus on fun. copy modes from call of duty like cranked, kill confirmed, team deathmatch, and domination. these modes would be a lot more fun to play since they are more respawn based, which would make dying a lot less punishing, thus sanitizing a lot of the come top lg or 60% rail neckbeard camping strategy.

secondly, warsow is a failed game, that was only kept alive by even more deranged, racist, sexist, homophobic losers and pedophiles. so the idea that anyone even cares about what game mode was popular in that game is hilarious. get a grip, no one cares about warsow.

Not a troll post: did it die already? Seriously, I find even reflex better and more visual pleasing... we all know how it went up there. Yeah, cpm movement ok, but even if they did change that it was not going to change the outcome. The only AFPS that have some future till next AFPS, pro streaming with good production quality, somewhat decent player base, is QC. Regardless, no one is posting news about the frequent pro league weekends with great matches and really big price money. No post even for the new season - GJ, but posting about dead on arrival game is put on pedestal.

No bad feelings toward 2gd, I like him like a person/caster, but from all I saw about that game - to think it will pull it off? Yes, I find even the crappy QC superior and don't get mi started about QL/CPMA/OSP even. Another clone with slight changes around the formula, but as all - worse. Quake is the one and only. Yes, I am biased.

Not a troll post my ass :-) A little more than 1 week after the public release there are already tournaments going on with more than 100 people signed up per region and thats only duel. Surely going to be interesting if they can keep up with the production quality of QC. But i prefer watching diabotical (especially different gamemodes) over the same 12 people duke it out in QC duel any time.

u r right it makes a lot of things correctly with wipeout (could be come a more spectator friendly team mode) and 1v1 aim arena ...
these are good additions, still needs to improve some small things like the melee weapon etc. ... I actually like playing the game ... those eggbots still need some getting used to it though ... and eggbots will never feel like QC ... but QC prolly only gets some new maps here and there and some little balance changes, so dbt can actually excel at creating a more community friendly afps ...

When I watched some streams I checked viewership too. DBT went from ~2k to ~300 in something like a 1.5 weeks. This makes even crappy QC's release performance look like game of the year stuff, just check followers... and that was taunted with "Why is this game so unpopular, omegalul" comments everywhere.

-The map editor, the thing that seemed most appealing to me, has a lot of neat features (like dynamic props) but still has a lot of issues and functionality missing. Also, some really annoying choices in how it works.
-Netcode still seems fucked up to me. Pincher is weirdly unreliable with hit detection, rockets disappear randomly, people clip through walls or disappear when you hit them, etc..
-Lots of little bugs throughout with the UI, or flying out of maps, missing sounds, etc..
-Some nice team/arena maps, but the duel maps, imo, are shockingly terrible. What happened?! Why are so many of them overly complicated with 4-5 atriums, and dozens of connecting hallways? They all feel really incoherent. Frontier could be better if someone cutaway 30% of it. Bioplant is a little rat maze, with too many hallways, too many atriums, too much-cluttered shit, weird scaling in places, etc..

Also, something with the UI feels weirdly unresponsive. I think it's the lack of feedback when you click things. Maybe it's the visual design that is too "flat" and silent.

Not really, QC is the most creative of probably any AFPS up to date. It's just channeled into retardation. If QC had no press-to-execute abilities, only the "classic" abilities that you execute yourself through the basic controls, and they weren't dispersed to champions, it would be CPM 2.0. It would have been CPM with crouchsliding and walljumping and whatever fucking else I don't know about. I'd probably bitch about more stuff, like projectile-teleport interaction from Q4, or PK's own projectile interaction, but I'd play it no matter how buggy.

anwyay, I tried Xonotic recently because I've seen it on this guy's channel and it had some really interesting mechanics. game is pretty under rated for sure.

that guy plays every Arena FPS shooter out there and gets to learn and enjoy what they have to offer in their own way. he has a series of videos "Emphasis on M" where he attempts to finish trick maps in almost any game (Quake, UT, Wolf:ET, CS..), they're highly educational about how movement mechanics work (especially in more obscure games like Wolf:ET).

Xonotic was just cool in general. It had some unique ideas for weapons, like the one that either let you hold onto the fire button to keep the bolts spread apart, or let you release it at a strategic time to collapse them into one big shot. I also really enjoyed the non-Euclidean level design via warpzones - I would love to see more arena FPS take advantage of that type of design.

As soon as you criticize some of the terrible decisions they've made so far, idiots instantly throw the good old retarded argument 'ur just mad because it's not a copy of q3', which is what they also did when qc came out, and we all know what happened to that game.

I'm not interested in team gametypes, I haven't tried them (apart from one or two wipeout games, which looks like worse CA - already an aids gametype) so I'm only going to talk about FFA and Duel.

Let's begin with the gametype that most players first started playing Quake with - FFA:
First of all, when you quick join the game, it throws you 6mins into the game even though the timelimit is only 8minutes.
That means you only play for two minutes, you don't even get to figure out the map, of course you aren't going to win because
other players already have 30 frags and then after the game is over everyone leaves the server.
I tried it few times and the same shit happened each time. Not reccommeneded until people start making custom servers with 10-15 minutes timelimit.
Also maps are shit even for ffa. I might try the game again when they make TDM maps, if there are some custom FFA servers with max 8 players.

I remember James talking about why he hates duel so much and why he wants to make it different from QL duel.
tl;dr: QL duel is +back railfest and comebacks were very rare.
Db duel at the moment is even worse than QL in this regard.
The maps are huge and have so many unnecessary rooms and hallways connecting them, they're even worse than rat maps in QL such as cure or sinister.
I'd like to try duel on smaller aerowalk/toxicity/hektik-size maps, although with the current golden frag ruleset it wouldn't work.
Unnecessary is the best word to describe so many things about this game.

The golden frag only makes the game super long and boring. The guy losing gets unlimited time to +back and wait 20mins for the player in control to get bored and ragequit or do yolo rush through the chokepoint. The shitty armor system always allows the player out of control have a lot of armor
and the item timers + rockets being useless and sometimes doing 0 dmg (which I hope will be fixed soon) encourages people to just brainlessly rush the items and hope for the best.
The item timers completely remove the delaying items aspect of the game.
If you want duel to not be a +back railfest, then the first step is to make faster maps and nerf railgun to max 80 dmg.
Just classic duel with 12 minutes timelimit should be enough. The slow grenade is often enough to turn the game around and make comebacks possible.

The best gametype atm is actually WARMUP, since it's the only gametype that actually does it's job. You can just shoot eggbots,
test ur cfg, learn the maps, and I like that it's not overcrowded like QL warmup servers.

the crosshairsection needs a tweak. i think its better to not apply changes to crosshair and hud settings unless you hit a "apply" button which i think should be there. sometimes you tweak up a nice crosshair, and just want to look at another one without having to make all adjustments again after looking at something else.

I want to also say that if +back was an issue they could've gone the same route as CPM with this but I still think the underlying problem is the bias to make a "Holy Trinity game." Diabotical is hardly innovative. Quake Champions also.

People trying to make another Quake 3 will continue to fail because they will push to make another "Quake Live" "but with a TWIST."

Bitch Quake Live, and Quake 3 have the formula figured out. Stop trying to pretend to solve the mystery of the universe by doing Quake 3 "but with a TWIST" so it isn't really "Quake 3" it's actually "Diabotical." or some other bullshit.

How did CPMA mod resolve this crisis of +back shit? First: create quality duel maps. All the maps in the CPM map pool encourage players to deal damage and offer limited options in terms of running away when reaching for an armor (i.e. force you to take a risk). It's much easier to trap people in these maps though in some larger one's it is a bit easier to run away. Reflex understood this concept well.

More important: starting health was reduced from the Quake 3 default of 125 health points to 100. Direct rockets and direct grenades deal 100 damage = instant kill.

Tiered armors to limit "pacmanning" like how it is in QuakeWorld. A mega that can't be timed to 35 second precision and instead acts like the QuakeWorld and Quake II mega.

I would make weapons time-to-kill increased in Diabotical for all of them and not reduce rail damage. I would instead increase the damage both shaft and rockets do (instant kill rockets off spawn). This will encourage spawn rape and reduce +back nonsense.

But at that point: I would rather play QuakeWorld and CPM.

So again: Reflex, Quake Champions, and Diabotical. What is there purpose? Just to say it's Call of Duty 15 being released?

id Software never made QLRanks. They never made OSP mod. They never made 3Wave maps. They never made RA3. They never made QLStats. They never made the 16,000+ maps on the WorldSpawn Archive.

The community helped make each successive game better. AnthonyJ saved Quake IV from RavenSoft.

They didn't even make CTF. CTF was some mod made by Zoid that got him hired by id Software when Quake came out. David "Zoid" Kirsch created CTF and then got hired by id Software.

ok, got enough time with the game to have a decent impression. I have to mention from the start that I would have probably never bought the game due to the unappealing artstyle, so it probably was the right move to make it free2play, this way I had nothing to lose if I tried it.

The Good:
+ the new team modes:
Wipeout: the twist on Clan Arena with the delayed respawn waves gives it more strategy and variety, resulting in much more interesting rounds. the weeballs add another layer of teamwork as they can be a crucial tool for team success or survival.

Wee-bow 5v5: the Crossbow is a very interesting weapon with a very nice learning curve. hitting lobbed shots at a distance is super satisfying. scoring by collecting fallen enemies coins (or denying them to collect) prevents camping and encourages teamplay. the rechargeable grenade boosts is super fun for very fast movement or juggling the opponents into a crossbow 2-in-1 combo.

+ the amount of maps and the consistent quality and polish they have
playing all the team modes, I have to say that most of the maps are memorable, flow well enough and are fun.
however as someone mentioned earlier, several tend to sprawl too much and some areas could be trimmed in a future pass.
I don't think there's a map that I really dislike, but I haven't played any duel yet (and most likely won't, since I play mostly TDM and other pub modes).

+ the dash mechanic
it's a very simple and effective shortcut for beginners in learning how to strafe jump. the initial circle jump is the most unintuitive part, so this bypasses the need for it.
remains to be seen how it will afect high level play, since it allows you to change direction instantly.. but hey, it's a new take on strafe jumping, so exploring it should be fun, even if it will be readjusted along the way.

+ respawning with the weapon that killed you in FFA.
id software tried to solve this "issue" by introducing loadouts and it didn't go well. this is clearly the superior solution.

+ rematching and constant play - no time wasted!
+ matchmaking AND browse-able private servers. crazy, I know!
+ lift jumps. always thought they were fun in UT
+ setting markers in team modes. this helps a lot even in pub games.
+ HUD editor - it's pretty amazing

The Bad:
+/- the cartoony artstyle is without a doubt polarizing. AFPS veterans are old(er) and have their sense of aesthetics anchored into 90s shooters. it's obvious their expectations won't mesh well with the silly colorful theme of this game.
it's also obvious that the devs aimed for a combination of wider appeal, cheaper assets and fast performance.
personally, I'm ok with the maps thematically, some of them look quite good even for a silly Pixar setting. the eggbots are starting to grow on me, but more like a funny meme. then again, I stopped taking games seriously and don't need to identify with a game's aesthetic to have fun.

+/- too many game modes that clash with each other right out of the gate:
Instagib vs Weebow
Extinction vs Wipeout
Aim vs Shaft vs Rocket arena
maybe it would be better to have more focused game modes at the start and gradually introduce/rotate similar types.

- visibility
item pickups: the models are not very suggestive to begin with, ammo pickups especially.
weapon models: the shotgun looks like a toaster, the rocket launcher looks like a robot clown's nose. they need to be scrapped and reworked entirely.
the powerup markers in Quick Play modes also need to be more visible.
the eggbots: maybe it's just me and I need some adjustment, but because they are spherical, it fucks with my depth perception and shooting rockets at their feet for splash is rather difficult.

- keeping the timers 25/35
this is a huge topic in itself, but I think it's unnecessarily complicated.
if 30/30 was deemed too hard to control/offset timing, it could've been 20/30 or 30/40.

- weeballs in duel. can't imagine the smoke or slow zone weeball being fun to play around.
- the grenade launcher. it's pretty limp, the grenades lack weight and bounce back towards you most of the time. seems rather useless in pub modes.
- turning the screen black and white when you die

QL FFA is much better than DBT.

Just as a general observation, Q3 has an awful lot of ugly pink and brown and whatnot walls with picmip 6, with mostly neon green keel's running around, gibs disabled.

Also, something I forgot to mention in my first response. I was a little iffy on the Eggbots at first, but they've really grown on me and I really have to praise 2GD for adopting a unique and recognizable silhouette / model scheme and not just making generic looking human soldiers / fighters / robots. Take Reflex for instance; to me they're just a bunch of run-of-the-mill robots. There is nothing about the player models that makes them memorable to me.

Identity is really important for standing out and I think Diabotical has succeeded here. Whether you think they're silly or cool, it's undeniable that people associate Diabotical with the Eggbots and vice versa.

The game is kinda fun, its like a lame Q3 for children. However the supershotgun feels weird. There's a bug that shows an information sign on top that says press a key or escape when you are trying to bind something and it gets stuck. And it lacks graphical options.

The anticheat is fucking retarded and I can't make it work with the Tinywall firewall even after giving it access to the .exe

Remove respawns and weeballs from 1v1 and 2v2 arena. Increase the amount of rounds needed to win.

For instance on bazaar, 2 rounds on every part of the map before new segment. It's 'aim' arena after all and not lotto arena like plenty of rounds get decided by weeball and respawn luck taking out the skill factor necessary to decide the victor. First guy to win 6 rounds wins the game.

Rail should just do 60 or 70 dmg in arena and ignore dmg multipliers.

RNG always clashes with skill and in my case, with fun. Aim, dodge and the execution should be the deciding factor, especially on maps that small where weeballs are too easy to change the dynamic and outcome of a round and spawn points are few and easy to be spammed.

PnCR doing 60 dmg going up to 80 would be a fine compromise.

The game started with these values didn't it? Why abandon a good idea early, then make the hit detection better and don't revert back. First decision I completely disagree with, hitscan through the whole map should not dominate, it kills strategy depth, gameflow, everything is worse

So, I gave it a shot. Diabotical and I have to admit it's bad, very very bad. Quake Champions is in many ways a piece of shit you could say. But Diabotical is on a whole other level. It's so shit that you could force people playing it or put them in solitary confinement.
It's so insanely horrible that writing about it feels like I could better shit myself and let it dry up in my pants than spend more time on the topic Diabotical.

So... where do I even start, it's so overwhelmingly bad that I could write a book on it, so I'm going to focus on what I do like.

- The maps look 'good' compared to anything else.

Then the bad:
- The circles, the smileys, the round eggs, it's not even 'indie developer' worthy I hate it, I uninstalled and I made a rule in my Anti-Virus that the executable needed to launch this piece of garbage is blocked forever.
- The weapons are the devs doing it on purpose? Give us vacuum cleaner nozzles instead of these ugly pieces of turds
- The sounds and especially the missing sounds. Footsteps right behind you hello? What the actual f*ck?
- The missing purpose of playing this game, it's so flat so dumb that i feel like I'm losing my last working brain cells.
- The missing impact, it's like shooting with a water pistol against a tank, why did I even try?
- Why do other weapons even exist? This game is designed for hitscan fanatics who do not need any other gun but the LG. Why is the LG emitting urine by the way?
- The netcode, Quake Live feels like a diamond compared to this piece of trash, hell, even Quake Champions feels rock solid.
- The unnecessary unneeded configuration settings, why don't you just open the g#$#$#amn source code? Is this all to please those 35+ years old maniacs?
- The bugs, the endless bugs it's so endless that after 7 years of developing you would think the 1.0 version should be a bit more stable.

Conclusion (tl;dr)
Never ever install this piece of shit, instead shit your pants and let it dry up and run a marathon.

I have to say however that you are being really unfair and biased when you criticize the netcode. Did we really play the same game?

I won't be playing it but I have watched it on Streams (cypher's, reygg's, etcetera) and I've played less than 100 hours of it myself.

The netcode is not a problem at all. Every miss you get in this game is correlated to missing the enemy model. With Quake Live I still get bizarre situations where I will shoot tankjr or keel's corner hitbox as an enemy leaves and is no longer visible and register a shot. People also constantly claim they get thru-rails in QL but I can't say I've experienced them myself after the netcode change in 2010-2011.

The netcode isn't a problem. The problem is the map geometry and the game itself.

You have a feeling of more agility in Quake games than the new games designed today. Why? Because the maps are designed much more like squares/rectangular rooms because of the Radiant game design engine. You can actually peek a corner and quickly dodge away. Now in Diabotical like I sort of experienced to a lesser extent in Reflex, you need to walk an entire depth to get inside the next room. This exposes you to being trapped in the anteroom between one room and another and doesn't let you peek back out.

Quake in general in all it's iterations allowed you to peek from the very corners edge and shoot a micropixel and as long as your crosshair was on the very edge it would fire a rocket that didn't hit the wall into the corner. You can't do agile skirmishes because before you even enter from one room into the next you need to walk 100 units through some corridor. I don't know if anyone else experienced this in Reflex or Diabotical, this feeling like you are trying to dodge away and get out of the room but there's literally no escaping because of the stupid geometry. I think part of what made Quake 3 really interesting was the idea that you could corner clip/skim walls to easily get away and get into a room. It just feels like we are playing a slower more floaty version of Quake.

But I will say this, the rockets feel terrible. You are right, you can't hear footsteps at all! But I completely disagree with you on netcode. I'd say my aim is also very comfortable and I had a fast transition from QL to diab. I just feel like as presentable as these little orbs are, they really do blend into the game. I wish there was a more distinct outline or fullbright because it feels like my eyes are doing exercise looking for the enemy.

anyway I won't play this shit either but please don't be dishonest that the netcode is trash, netcode, is solid , and I don't think comparing it to Quake Champions is fair.

I second the sound being crap too. The omnidirectional garbage as in QC but far worse + the bots are loud af, There is one 10 meters above you jumping around and it sounds like it's multiple bots jumping around right next to you left right front behind.

Also the bots being so loud makes games a stale campfest, especially if there are plenty of peek-bo-boo quake ex-Q3 palyers in it.

I'm not sure why people still get surprised by being shot behind walls in modern games. That's just how netcode is made these days. Pretty much all modern FPS games "rewind" your position to negate the effects of enemy lag. That's by design because it is considered worth it. The faster you can move in a game, the more obvious it is going to be.

Not horseshit at all. Almost all modern FPS game engines use client side hit reg or backwards reconciliation. This rewinds the enemy to the position he was at on the shooter's screen at the time of firing.

This is done so that people do not have to lead their targets when they aim with hitscan weapons, which is something you have to do in the unmodded versions of the first four quakes, in the presence of lag.

The rail doesn't go through the wall. It is hitting him at a position he occupied in the past---because on the enemy's screen, he is still in that position. That's due to lag, and it happens in every game that uses this type of netcode. It's been happening since the Unlagged mod for Q3 released in the early 2000s.

QW did not use that kind of netcode at all. It didn't rewind players. Firing straight away in QW is achieved via client side prediction, which modern games still use. The original QW does not lag compensate hit registration. You have to lead your shots by an amount proportional to your ping in all those games.

You need to stop acting like you are the only one who played the holy Quake 1. I was alive then too, y'know. I played Q1 and Q2 before Q3 came out, and almost everyone in those days had 200+ ping. You had to compensate for the lag yourself.

Also, no matter which game it is, there is always going to be a side effect to playing under the conditions of lag. You can't code it away. You just have to pick your poison.

That type of thing is not a netcode issue anyway. It's more likely something to do with the map. Go around the map and check which parts of walls you can shoot through, but you know, in QC, people were complaining about certain "decorative" parts of the map being able to block shots.

I did not play db by now, maybe i never will, who knows. I watched some stream instead and i think it is visually boring. It has no theme, no consistent art style, that your feelings could attach to. It is more like random themes glued together for no reason. I really do not know where i am in and what i should think about my environment. Games like Overwatch and so on make that work by superior designers and a lot of money in general.

On top of that you are chasing little circle things like Smarties, you know the things you can eat. But Smarties have bright colors compared to that. And they look visually appealing. Also the eggs they look too small. As if they are only half the size they should be. And what is with the hitbox? Is it round too? Or is it a square? If it is the latter one then you will get problems with the playermodel matching the hitbox if you further increase the size.

I watched Krysa and friends play and they make the game look nice. So i guess it is mechanically and gameplay wise good. But then again what else to expect when you copy Quake 3?

At the moment the game lacks a "killer mode" that attracts all the players. McGuffin is good, but not the killer mode.

Extinction surely isn't it, or we don't have the maps yet for its full potential.

Maybe CTF or Gold Rush will be less chaotic and bring more structure, they are almost done.

this is your mistake. people already moved on after quake champions turned out to be such a disappointing title back in 2017. at this point, we all just play our games, regardless of whether they scratch the same competitive itch or not. and if quake and unreal tournament die, they die. i was a tribes player at one point and i was really disappointed by tribes vengeance, and tribes ascend but now i don't give a shit.

the railgun is still terrorizing every single game, just as it has in every game that has ever implemented it. the weeballs are horrendous for the game other than the smoke weeball which can be used to make railgun players miss occasionally.

the graphics are so outdated for a game that's coming to market in 2020. there's just such low asset quality and detail caused by their inhouse engine, even though they have the right idea of making the art direction brighter and more colorful than quake games. it actually has worse detail than overwatch at the moment, and that's a fact.

and all of this is going to make people drop the game after 2 hours, and go back to warzone or fortnite or pubg or csgo or valorant or whatever game they play that has a thousand times the playerbase and is more fun.

It's totally fine if people moved on, obviously my post is not targeted towards them, and I agree with your sentiments about playing whatever game you enjoy playing. However, if you want something Quake-like, with a community large enough to not need to sit around on IRC/Discord/random server waiting for players, then this your opportunity to enjoy that.

I did not suggest there is anything wrong with mobile games, but they are the antithesis of Quake-like games games, and as you mentioned their popularity make them lucrative ventures.

I enjoy ranked macguffin, but im certain wipeout is the most played mode AND it will forever be the most played mode in diabotical. Which is fine by me.

Im for sure going to keep playing diab, it feels nice, easy to customize your own hud, i dont mind the eggbots/art style and mouseinput feels flawless.

The dodge mechanic felt 1000 times better in the first closed beta weekends, but i guess the old school vq3ers cried a tear too much and 2gd decided to ruin it to please them.
I like the crossbow, it should be used in more maps/modes instead of rail.

Overall im happy with the game.

Yeah team modes are the focus of the game yet they are so incredibly rough. MCG is good but lacks a good introduction and is difficult to get a grasp of, EXT is a trash version of TDM where it feels like everything you do barely matters, WP is tweaked CA so it is slightly better trash. And all that is being pushed hard as the forefront of DBT.

The game needs work on the player feedback.

Overall it doesnt seem like 2gd understands that the most important of a game is its degree of polish on its features and not how many check-boxes it checks with the said features. They should have kept quite and continued working on the game once they secured the epic deal in my humble opinion.

In this day and age tho, a game can raise from its ashes and gain a bigger player base. So hopefully thats the strat but they have a lot of work ahead of them to bring a certain level of polish.

As far as duel I agree it was way better in the closed beta, but I dont know how it would have held in the long run even. And even if they reverted to the old dodge, duel is nothing but a shadow of its old self as I feel like hitboxes are too big in a world where everyone's aim went way way up, and im pretty sure I will forever hate the idea of having weapon respawn time at 5 in duel, thanks syncerror.

CA players cant complain tho, they have yet another arena fps to not play as an arena fps. Good thing 2gd came to their rescue.

Despite all this, I appreciate the game and will continue to play. Pretty much everything outside of what I mentioned in this post is good so it wins on other games but I dont feel like playing hard when my options currently are MCG, trash tier team modes, and neutered duel.

Shit overnerfed weapons especially rockets, awful mouse input, and you have to shoot with all of that at floating spheres... and for the idiots who think is only me and input is great because james said so, go into wipeout where you'll spec others. Everyone looks like an epileptic with drunken swings all over the place, they struggling with the controls, even the players I know are pretty good. I think ppl are sobering out to how stupid this is, because it took 20-30 minutes for the game to put together a wipeout, and often 5-10 mins for simple FFA when I checked. The Q times are not shorter than QC, the game just puts you into lobbies fast.

You can't be serious...you blow your personal experience way out of proportion and coupled with selective perception you see bad aiming everywhere. This is not the case. There are only very few ACCEL USERS that have issues, everyone else is perfectly fine...

Overall, I like the game. They did a great job and got most things right.

Where I think they fucked up is the weapon balance - Diabotical simply picks up where ql left off and it's rail to lg and spam some rockets. Lg still murders rockets at mid range.
Watched a couple of the 'test cup' games and despite the novelty and wee eggs and new maps and whatever, it didnt feel fresh.

Wipeout is the same. Whats the point of nerfing rail if all the maps are wide open? Unreturned damage from distance will always be dominant under these circumstances, whether its 70, 80 or 50 damage. I dont think newcomers enjoy rail angle hunting, especially since they're always on the recieving end.

I would like crossbow to replace rail completely and have long-distance game become more complex than it is now.
And RL should just be OSP RL in terms of bounce and pushback to have more interesting mid range fights.

Game has input lag on the mouse since I enabled accel. Fuck this.

I was hitting decently with my lame temporal 4.3 sens 0 accel setting, now I finally got into translating my mouse and accel from QL into this game and I can feel mouse lag on my mouse movements. It's small, but of course, a tiny bit of input lag is enough to ruin it.

Please write a bug report on reddit or diabotical.com. Complaining here does nothing, but the devs are very competent and quick so if they can find an issue by bug description it might be fixed quickly.

I am also looking at it daily, doesn't look 2gd for dbt for some time (no pun intended) ... but I held back since I didn't want to be the prophet of doom ... guess they will still hold their mapping competition and then let it slowly let fade out ... maybe 2gd has other sources of income to maintain this game, I mean he was able to pay office and workers for 7 years plus without shipping a product, also chose to be progamer/esports commentator before as job, guess you do such decisions only with some leverage behind u ... there were really some good ideas behind it ... but thats not enough, there are fundamental design flaws behind the eggbots, etc., it's sad they still continue to sail that eggbot ship, although noone ever said that those eggs are the coolest things since sliced bread, and yeah and the rest of the game just feels like a QL washup, they should have added abilities, it just feels like some generic Q3A clone ... and all the dogooders still look away on the slowish performance, 100 fps on mid settings with gtx 1060 for a game that does not look any better than QL, which is more than a decade old, or even 2 decades if take into account q3a ... but people want to look away from the emperor with no clothes it seems

Still, performance is kinda doo doo for a game that should run on russian toasters.

But it looks primitive.
It's a no go in current year. More polygons are required, even for fuckin cubes.

The 30k mapping contest suggests they havent even started yet and want to ensure they have a proper platform (maps, servers, well-wroking game) before they get serious with tournaments or attempt a major newbie intake.
They couldve had a huge tournament or a league for this kind of money, or simply paid some sellout streamers to promote Diabotical. I see this decision as an investment - not only in maps, but also capable map makers and/or modders.

It doesnt matter whether you like diabotical or not, spending 30k to engage the community and have solid maps before you go anywhere makes more sense than throwing one million into an early beta tournament.

There's soething wrong with that movie, the models don't lean to the sides, which is what makes Q3/QL feel better than QW and DBT. For some reason they disabled it there.

I wish they had done some things differently but I am still enjoying it for what it is. The engine is fantastic, the graphical style grew on me, the HUD customization is great, etc. I went back and played some QL freezetag recently and the entire game felt and looked like shit compared to DBT. So I'll stick to playing DBT as long as the queues stay tolerable. But, if someone comes along with a well-executed QuakeWorld clone then I'm all in on that shit.

exactly. there is also basically no dodging in this game. Don't know if its the models or what, but in Q3/QL players with good movement could actually juke the shit out of others. This game notsomuch. Just feels much more basic than even QL.
