Started in September, the 2nd DuelMania 1on1 QuakeWorld tournament will see see its Grand Final played Wednesday at 13:00 CST.
This match will feature the same two players from the WB Final: Rikoll and bps. With the Norwegian players coming from the WB, this means bps needs to win 2 bo5 sets to claim the victory along with the "imaginary trophy"!

Some of us already knew about it, but now it's official: Quakelive is now on ESL VERSUS. It was first added with TDM 4v4, but after some thinking, it's finally Duel that will be featured for the official launch. Other modes could follow in the next weeks if needed!
So far, the 1v1 map list consists of non-Premium maps (Blood Run, Campgrounds, Furious Heights, House of Decay, Lost World and Vertical Vengeance). Premium maps should be added soon with a better system to handle them!
Note that ESL Wire still isn't compatible with Quakelive.

The 107th ZOTAC QL Duel Cup is taking place this Sunday 30th of October (Be careful about the Upcoming time changes). Last week, after the Quakelive fail and some reschedule, Cypher finally got in the final against pavel where he ended victorious after 4 maps ()!
If you're following the Quakelive page on facebook, you probably already know there was an update planned for tonight. After the downtime we can see: 3 maps were added (including the famous q3amphi), a number of issues were fixed with Chrome, some vertexdate sizzle was fixed on several maps and the site also had a couple fix.
Reflux (CTF)
A decaying corrosive materials factory is the site of Reflux, a brand new Capture the Flag arena. Industry has long left this facility as nature begins to reclaim it. The only sign of human life remaining is a large mixer in the center still churning, keeping its acidic mixture cool and flowing throughout the building. This machinery may even be the only thing stopping a massive explosion from engulfing everything around it.
More recently, arena combatants have found the place and have began using it to practice their movement, weaving through the mixer blades to pick up a Battle Suit in the middle. Holding the power-up opens up an additional route to the flag, past the Red Armor and Medkit, and through the pipes leading into an acid vat in the flag room. Reflux is a very fast and dynamic CTF map, and is best played with 4 players a team.
Eye to Eye (Small Duel, Small FFA)
Nobody is quite sure why this place exists, or what sits behind the ominous, sealed door, yet somehow combatants find themselves teleported into this gladiator pit. This is Eye to Eye, a small Duel map that plays a bit differently than typical arenas.
There's no items or positioning to worry about, just three platforms, and an octagon in the middle. However, our octagon has no cage, and no rope breaks to get you out of the corners. Instead, retreating will earn you a visit to the lava god, Chthon. Players are armed with a set of armor and weapons upon every spawn. Eye to Eye is another arena new to QUAKE LIVE, and is best played in Duel, or mix it up and try it with a three player Free For All.
Seams and Bolts (Small CA)
Seams and Bolts is a small Clan Arena map based on a Rocket Arena 3 design by Adam Bellefeuil. An open middle room is flanked by crossings, leading to lots of opportunity to jump down and plant direct rockets into a few skulls. If you find yourself being pushed out of the middle of the arena, some well placed rails from one of the exterior rooms may be enough to take down some rocket jumping fools, allowing you to charge into the middle from one of three different heights. Seams and Bolts is a fun addition for our Clan Arena players, able to easily handle 2v2 and 3v3 matches.
Plugin Updates
- Disabled block stopping Google Chrome uses from using the site.
- Fixed Chrome users losing and reconnecting to the friends network every few seconds.
- Fixed Chrome users being unable to load the site after hitting Refresh on the server browser.
- Fixed a potential cause where the game may write out qzconfig.cfg and repconfig.cfg with garbage bytes at the end of the filename.
- Updated Linux Firefox XPI install metadata to allow up more recent versions to install the plugin.
Game Updates
- Fixed an issue where the game would unnecessarily write out qzconfig.cfg and repconfig.cfg when friend network activity occurs (signing off, on, messages). This may help users who experience hitching when friends sign on and off.
- Decreased how long the end-game scoreboard is shown for.
- Fixed incorrect vertexlight data on the following maps: Almost Lost, Battleforged, Concrete Palace, Devilish, Dies Irae, Distant Screams, Double Impact, Focal Point, Overlord, Powerstation, Retribution, and Space CTF.
Web Updates
- Resolved an issue where invited standard players would get the "Go Pro" popup while joining a server right after they were invited.
- Updated Game Guide and FAQ with up to date info.
- Don't show friend invite/block buttons on your own profile.
- Most popup notifiers will now automatically close when you choose an action.
- Misc. style fixes to clan invitation, format tag panel.
- Fixed HTML-escaped characters showing up in edit profile bio.

Twitch.TV join ZOTAC and Plantronics to support Quake Live at DreamHack Winter 2011. DreamHack cancel Showmatch in Duel and replace it with a real 16-player duel tournament.
DreamHack is about listening to the community and after our announcement yesterday with a SEK 60 000 TDM-tournament and a SEK 20 000 Showmatch in Duel we got alot of feedback that the community would love to have a real duel tournament on-site.
At the same time we got approached by our streaming partner Twitch.TV and they said they could support a Duel tournament with $5,000 in prize money. So we have decided to cancel the Showmatch with SEK 20 000 in Quake Live and replace with with a real Duel tournament with 16 players in addition to our already existing TDM-tournament. This will give us a Duel tournament with SEK 55 000and a TDM-tournament with SEK 60 000 which is a total prize purse of SEK 115 000 in Quake Live only one of the biggest total prize purses DreamHack have pulled off in this game.

Yesterday evening, sz just canceled his participation in the coming group stage of the ESL Major Series Season IX leaving us with a new slot to fill! So it was just decided to run a Last chance cup for the losers of the QR2 (excepted those who got a noshow) on Sunday 23rd at 12:00 CST!
Mojang just won the injunction in the Scrolls trademark case and Bethesda Softworks can still appeal in the next 3 weeks. If Bethesda accepted the Quake 3 challenge proposed by Notch, it seems they had good chances to win the dispute.
"Minecraft developer Mojang revealed today that it has won an interim injunction against publisher Bethesda Softworks in the Scrolls trademark case, meaning the indie company can continue to use the Scrolls title for its upcoming game."

A couple days after the last matches of the Duel Summer League 2011 (Congratulations to Guismo12!) and the TDM Country Championship 2011 were played, the European Quakelive section just announced new competitions for Quakelive. The Autumn League 2011 will feature both TDM and CTF!
Both Leagues will run the same. Depending on the sign ups, divisions will be made. Each team plays each other once and at the end, the team which ends first is our Autumn winner! The 101st ZOTAC QL Duel Cup is taking place this Sunday 18th of September. Last week strenx took the big cheese of the 100th edition after defeating k1llsen in the final (). pavel took the 3rd place.
Now that the captains have submitted their line-ups and the teams are known, there is one step left before the TDM Country Championship 2011 can start: a qualifier match between Ireland and Latvia (Info). This match is scheduled for Monday 12th at 13:00 CST so far, and its winner will join the nations in Group B. Because all the groups are already made, and the first games are planned for Tuesday!

The 100th ZOTAC QL Duel Cup is taking place this Sunday 11th of September. For that special edition, the cup will get additional hardware prizes from ZOTAC and Cooler Master. Of course, the usual 100 also remains! The top3 players will be rewarded with the following prizes:
This cup will be for everyone and anyone to enter. Once a week there will be a tournament with points to play for, the points can get you qualified to the Playoffs hosted at the end of the month where you can compete for the 160 prize pool. The 2nd Open Duel Cup held during the week can also get you qualified for the monthly invitational, there will be a cash prize for the 1st place contender.
This cup is designed for amateur players who want to improve their game. There will be two amateur cups per week. One cup will be for players to compete for points, this can allow them to qualify for the tournament at the end of the month (separate to the Open Duel Cup Invitational). The second weekly amateur cup will also be played for points although the 1st place contender will win an hour of coaching with one of our resident pro's (as seen in this news). The monthly play-offs will also have prizes for 1st and 2nd.

The International, French and Swedish qualifiers for the ESL Major Series Season IX will be played on Wednesday 7th of September at 12:00 CST. See the Scheduled Listings to check when the other national qualifiers are played.
2 Swedish players, 1 French and 1 European will directly qualify. 2 Swedish players, 2 French and 1 European will get into QR2. And 2 players of each will be put into QR1.

The Polish qualifier for the ESL Major Series Season IX will start on Tuesday 6th of September with the first round. Each round will be played at 12:00 CST during the coming days and its Grand Final is planned for the 15th.
One player will directly qualify, another will be sent to QR2 and two players will get into QR1.
The 2v2 cups will alternate between Team Deathmatch and Clan Arena. If much interest is shown then it is possible that 4v4 TDM and CTF will be integrated in to the system.

There isn't any change made to the rules or to the format for this special edition of the cup. Note that the very first ZOTAC QL Cup was played the 4th October 2009 and won by strenx, as well as one-third of all cups!

This Wednesday will see another ESL QL Summer Cup, but it won't be focused on team play! This cup will feature Duel over a Double Brackets with bo3 games in WB and bo1 in LB. Once again, the matches should start at 12:00 CST. And if the cup is running too late, the finals could be delayed to another day.
The maps will be Aerowalk, Blood Run, Furious Heights, Hektik, Lost World, Toxicity, Vertical Vengeance. There will be only one division and the cup will be limited to 32 players. Also, all players must record demos (cg_autoAction 3)!
Yesterday, the ESL Major Series Season IX was announced with 8 titles. Quake Live will be part of this new season, and since IEM dropped Quakelive duel, it now becomes the new mode for EMS. The cash prize will consist of 1 000 for the top3 players.

The qualifiers should be run on the following model: players will have to go through national cups to be placed in the Qualifiers Rounds, an international cup will be run for countries without national cups. Each country will get a number of players directly qualified and/or placed in the 2 Qualifier Rounds. We will reach a total of 20 players at the end of the process. Also, 4 players will get a direct invitation.
After reviewing the applications and running a few polls over the weekend, the captains of 24 countries taking part in the TDM Country Championship 2011 are known. They now have 2 weeks, until the 4th of September, to prepare and announce their rosters.

Recently I talked to a friend to ask if he's willing to make TZAC support QL and the reply was something along this lines "yes, if people are interested and will use it". For those of you that don't know, TZAC is short for Tomislav Zubcic Anti Cheat. It already is used by CoD4 and W:ET, soon for CS:S and CoD2. Since these frequently occurring cheat incidents by some top players, and people whining about no AC for QL, here's a poll. Depending on how you vote, TZAC will/won't be available for QL.

The Russian organisation GoodGame is running the Quakelive 1v1 God Q-Live Cup on the 19th of August with $300 as cash prize. The format used will be Single Elimination Brackets with bo1 matches until the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals the matches will be played as bo3 and finally the Grand Final will be played as bo5.

c) For bo5, each player picks one map (the player with upper position in grid goes first), then eliminates one map. Then again picks. In case of draw the 5th is played as a remaining.

A new TDM 4v4 Summer cup will be played on Wednesday 17th of August, starting at 12:00 CST! This fifth edition will will not differ from the previous edition as the same maps, rules and format will be the same!
The maps are Grim Dungeons, Dreadful Place, Purgatory, Hidden Fortress and Deep Inside. The matches are BO3 and the format will feature 2 divisions over SE Brackets with random seedings. Also, all players must record demos (cg_autoAction 3)!
