As announced during the Quakecon 2009 press conference by id President Todd Hollenshead, the next Quake Live update will feature Linux and Mac support. The update is currently scheduled to be released on the August 18th.

For those at Quakecon now, both the Mac and Linux versions can be tested on the show floor.

Averatec-Intel Classic Season 3 will run for 20 weeks from March 29, 2009. Unlike most of the other StarCraft leagues, there will be no preliminary matches, all matches are considered as a part of the knockout tournament. Averatec-Intel Classic Season 3 will be broadcasted live in English by Korea (Republic of) Daniel "SuperDanielMan" Lee, Mexico "SuperRageMan" & United States of America Nick "Tasteless" Plott.
The Winner will receive $44,000, the Loser $18,000 - both will also get a Ticket to Blizzcon 2009.

G7 Adds Quake Live Ranking (10 comments)

The G7 organization has decided to add Quake Live to their ranking system with QuakeCon 2009 beeing the first ranked event.
With Quakelive being added to the grid of more and more tournaments in the future and Quake in general having such a huge past as a competitive eSports title, the G7 Teams decided to start a ranking for it with Quakecon 2009 being the very first tournament to earn points. The ranking will fall under the same set of rules as CounterStrike 1.6 and WarCraft III do. As the granted points at the first tournament need to be determined and the G7 Teams look at the grid of players and competition as a major tournament, a total of 240 points will be played out at Quakecon 2009.

On the eve of Quakecon 2009 in Dallas, Team Dignitas has just released a movie that features interviews with United Kingdom dignitas/GaRpY and United Kingdom dignitas/HELL at the ESL EPS UK Finals that were held in London in July.

GaRpY won over HELL in the final then and both players are currently in Dallas and looking forward to the tournament tonight. The full interview can be viewed on the Team Dignitas website.

It was announced on tuesday that computer peripherals manufacturer Razer and video game developer Blizzard Entertainment will be cooperating to create high end, StarCraft II themed, tournament grade gaming gear designed to maximize the StarCraft II experience. Mouses, keyboards and headsets are to be expected.

According to Razer's Robert 'Razerguy' Krakoff: “It has been a little over a decade since StarCraft first rocked the video game industry and began a legacy that continues to this day. We’re extremely excited to be working with Blizzard Entertainment on the StarCraft II gaming peripherals and gear. The project is in the development phase with a focus on serving up innovative features while offering precision, cutting-edge technology, accuracy, speed and comfort.”

QuakeUnity, the premiere Quake download and news website, today announced it will offer expansive coverage of QuakeCon 2009. QuakeUnity will be working with the crew of QuakeLive.TV, the popular QuakeLive tournament coverage website, to bring you player interviews and analysis of the event.

As part of our coverage, QuakeUnity will offer true high definition video of the all the press conferences including the first look at RAGE and Brink, John Carmack’s keynote and the id Software press conference. Not to long ago, we conducted a very interesting video interview with one of the most famous faces in the Warcraft 3 pro gaming scene, China Fly100%.

The main factor for why this interview was interesting was obviously the fact that the questions were asked in Korean, then translated to Chinese, then back to Korean and finally into English for the subtitles...

Fly speaks about his performance in the e-Stars Seoul event, current feelings about Warcraft 3, imbalance in Warcraft 3, thoughts about the future release of Starcraft 2 and where he see’s himself and others from China after its release, who he thinks will be the best country to play the game, and much more.

Today Fnatic announced that it will be adding 4 new players to its roster and sponsoring them in the QuakeCon event. The four players are:

United Kingdom David "deus" Kinnaird
France Pierre-Emeric "link1n" Portier
Sweden Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira
Italy Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone

Accompanying them in the CTF tournament will be Sweden Magnus "fox" Olsson, who will still be respresenting his team LowLandLions.

Fighting game frenzy: Shiozawa & SBO (14 comments)

This week seems a promising week for fighting game enthusiasts:
First of all starting on Thursday the 13th at 11:00 CEST a warming-up for the Street Fighter IV fans is the Shiozawa Cup. This tournament (held in Japan) is backed by Capcom, Taito and Enterbrain and will consist of 5 on 5 team battles. 24 teams are going to participate, sign-ups are now full.

When done with that the next installment of the the 7th annual Super Battle Opera fighting game tournament will begin (14, 15 and 16th of August).

Just a few moments ago the guys behind Bring it Back Safely released a quick sneak peek to Season II, including details about changes and additions to the League. The second season will be starting early September and sign-ups are already open.

More importantly BiBS will now be including a North American section as well. The american admin team will consist of United States of America cpy_, United States of America gibz, United States of America icel0re and United States of America stevo for now. Both the European and the North-American sections of BiBS will be using the 4v4 format. And unless some new CTF maps are released, the 2nd Season will use the same map list as the first one (ctf2, ctf3, ctf7, ctf8, ctf10).

QL IEM Pro/Am Challenge Qualifications (16 comments)

After the announcement of an IEM QuakeLive Pro/Am Challenge tournament at Gamescon this summer, we were left without much details. A few days ago Rondrian has posted a German news with all the details which has now been translated.

Most of the tournament will be played on Friday 21st of August. Then on Saturday its Final will be played on stage and streamed on ESL-TV. Only the winner will be rewarded with $1,000, but 8 players will get the chance to play in this tournament.

Two online qualification cups will be held and each will grant the top2 players a slot for the IEM QuakeLive Pro/Am Challenge (sign-ups are already open). The other 4 slots will be open to sign-up at Gamescon starting on Friday at the ESL Intel Gamezone booth.

Format: Single Elimination / best-of-3
Map list: qzdm6, qzdm13, qztourney4, qztourney7 and ztntourney1

Quake.cz Czech Quake prepared a third Duel Cup on QuakeLive.cz Quake Live that will help you to spend some time playing Quake while waiting for the Grand Finals of QuakeCon Tournaments.

For all of you that can't make it to QuakeCon this year, our online tournament that will take place on Sunday, 16th August.

The matches in Duel Cup are BO3 and we will use double elimination brackets for 32 - 64 players. The maplist of the tournament is the same as QuakeCon so you will be free to choose from all 7 maps.

As usual, you can pre-register by writing !ADD and your NATIONALITY in this news post. The admin of the tournament is Czech Republic Hawr1x and you have to check-in from 06:00 CDT to 07:00 CDT on IRC Channel #QL.cz.

Tournament itself will start on 07:00 CDT and selected matches will be broadcasted in CzEnglish (Example).
