At #tdmpickup, we have many reasons to celebrate: played our 40 000th game last month, HoQ TDM season just finished, QuakeCon 2015 featuring TDM... This calls for yet another #tdmpickup Draft Tournament!

Our 10th Cup will start at 11:00 CDT, 15 March 2015. Signups will start at 10:00 CDT, 15 March 2015 and will last for one hour.

Many of you complained about the SE format in the past, so in a change from previous tournaments, #10 will feature a best-of-1 Loser's Bracket for all teams except WB finalists.

All players are invited to participate, but remember, each player has to play at least 10 TDM pickups prior to the tournament. Please warm up by playing with us all week!

The Duel Cup brings you the first of two duel cups this March and sign ups are open for the first of these! Despite there not being a prize for this event we've already got a nice healthy bracket going already. Games will begin promptly at 19:00 CST, 7 March 2015. Important announcement post cup as well just to address the future cups.

Format

64 Player Double Elimination. Map selection for Best of Three (upper bracket) is pick/pick and best of one (lower bracket) is obviously drop/drop. Common topics Relating to rules and guidelines are below and full details are here.
1.) Occasionally someone will ask "I don't have 3 days and 300 duels played! Can I still play?" and the answer is: "get in touch with admins". This rule exists to deter aliasing so the tournaments can be seeded properly.

2.) In a "Pick-Pick" tournament the players each pick a map from the pool, and then drop maps until one remains. The map that remains will server as a tie breaker. Best of One sets still decide maps by dropping until there is a single map left to play.

3.) Type "cv cointoss" following by "heads" or "tails" into the console to see who picks/drops first. The winner of the coin toss may pass the first map drop/pick to their opponent or take it for themselves.

4.) Upper Bracket games are Best of Three sets: PICK PICK, drop drop, drop drop, tie-breaker

5.) Lower Bracket games are Best of One sets: drop drop, drop drop, drop drop, play last

6.) Grand Finals is a Best of Five/Seven (please read for further clarification)
The upper bracket finalist is assumed to have proven themselves by not dropping a set throughout the tournament, and therefore if they take 3 map wins before their opponent they win the grand finals. However if the player from the lower bracket takes 3 map wins first then the best of five becomes a best of seven. Map selection remains the same starting with a coin-toss. Player who wins the coin-toss may pick the first map or pass the choice to their opponent. Subsequent picks are then chosen the loser of the most recent map.

6.) Server settings can be copied from below to make a Texas server with password: duel

No additional modifications are allowed. The only values you may change are the maps, server name, server password, and server location. Do not make premium servers. There is no point and it only causes issues with players needing invites. If you simply use a password and provide the information in #duelcup irc on quakenet I assure you no one will bother you. Always provide an admin a link to your game and the password BEFORE you ready up. We can avoid having to ask you mid game accidentally. Please provide your server information into the #duelcup chat. Anything sent to flair in IRC is safe from the stream. note: Anything sent to flair in game is subject to show up on stream! Please use IRC

"Why doesn't the league have a finals?

This is the question I asked. Since no one could present a good reason not to have one the only logical thing someone could do was create one! Right? Team DeathMatch has been through the grinder, but we all know TDM still comes out looking better and more appealing than whatever "it" was you brought home from the bar last week. We can sit here and find excuses why she isn't so pretty anymore. We can choose sides or even play the martyr. Or... we can just watch four of the best teams playing in a Single Elimination Bracket this Sunday starting at 12:00 CST, 1 March 2015

The (in)famous Quad Damage tournament is back! Uniting Quake players from every title, the Quad Damage will span four games across four weeks: QuakeWorld, Quake II, Quake Live, and Quake IV. To keep the focus on game differences rather than map knowledge, we'll be showcasing the tried and true Aerowalk in each game. Playing in any week will net you points - playing in multiple games will net you bonus points!

This is the final week, finally! Work and illness have delayed things for almost a month, but we want to finish this cup off with a bang. This has been largely experimental, but unquestionably fun. After this week, there will be some notes and tweaks, and we'll churn out another... likely sans Q4. I'm sure it will be missed.

After looking if QuakeCon 2015 had any tournament I saw they had nothing but "Stay tuned for more information".

However there are rules up for: QUAKECON® 2015 QUAKE LIVE® TRI-MASTER TOURNAMENT

The Quake Live Tri-Master Tournament will feature competitions for up to sixteen (16) four-player teams, where each team will be put to the test in a triathlon comprised of Capture the Flag (CTF) , Team Deathmatch (TDM), and Duel to determine which team can stake their claim to being the one true TriMaster Champion. Teams who come out on top will share prizes of $32,000. Following the Triathlon Tournament, the top two individual duelers selected by their team will then face off to claim an additional $8,000 and the title of Grand Master Champion.

Update: The Quake Live Tri-Master Tournament has now been announced on QuakeCon.org.

Sign ups are now open for the new Reflex NA TDM 2v2 league - Partners in Crime. Sign ups will be open from now until February 27th. Play starts March 2nd.

There wil be groups stages followed by single elimination playoffs. Matches are BO3 with maps of AFRODM1, DP4, THCDM6, THCDM13, and XFDM2. Maps are chosen via pick-pick-drop-drop. The full league is expected to last around a month. Full rules are available.

There have been various attempts over the years to "improve" the Doom palette. While these attempts had various goals, and succeeded to various degrees, one question remains: did the authors get paid billions of dollars for recoloring pictures? No? Then their attempts were objectively inferior to one group of people who did!
