oh man, you have to make this a 2v2 tourney, so many more interesting matches would occur with more signups, as its really harder to predict who would win and more people would feel they have a chance. where in 1v1 its only a couple of the same hardcore players and we know mostly how it plays out between them already. 2v2 would serve for at least a couple of upsets.

OMG, is that for real ?

I suggest you to keep the donation oppened. With an already existing prize pool, people might be more interested in giving something.
Have you tried to contact some of the FaceIt guys (such as ddk, which is involved in CPMA) or of the 2GD staff ? That could help to have a better audience, streamers and more donations.

Furthermore, You should have 7 maps, instead of 5, because the most important matches diserves to be bo5, and players must be able to both ban one map.
You can let the community choose these 2 maps.
Maps like eizdm, hektik etc.

By the way, I suggest you to let the community choose the 4 last invited players, it would be more fair.

Ah, one more thing, don't think that CPMA Devs are dead (at least, I hope that qrealka is still alive), we are just waiting that qrealka shows up. =)

One of the coolest things about CPM tournaments was always that players have to know all the mappool as there's no map banning. I personally don't think it's a good idea to change that now.

Regarding qrealka, seems like he got a new job and moved to another city, so he might be quite busy at the moment. I wouldn't expect him showing up in any time soon.

Well, in my opinion, in a competitive scene, you can't master all the maps and you must know the strong and weak points of your opponent. And it's more interesting to see 2 close matches instead of 2 maps where a player completely dominates the other.

About Qrealka, this is why I supposed. That's quite sad in some way because we can't go anywhere without him (only him has currently the access to the source code and the repositories). The good point at least is that he succeed to find a new job, I can't blame him for that.
If you see him someday, remind him about the CPMA Dev, I just need a part of the source code to start to work on bugfixes at least.

Dropping maps is retarded. It's better to see each player dominate his own map than to see both players strive for mediocrity twice. There's also a difference between knowing your opponent's strong and weak points and just knowing which is his best map. There's no skill in dropping your opponent's best map.

With this prize pool I could see this tournament also drawing in some of the big names from QL which would obviously make things even more epic. There is a problem here though, DHW takes place on November the 28th so all the big names from QL will be focusing the DHW QL duel tournament and thus wont have the time to properly prepare and really give this CPM cup a real shot.

I think it would be much better if you could delay the date of this cup by a month or two. that way you're more likely to get more QL players involved, plus, then vo0 could participate. Also make sure to allow donations in the mean time since I got a feeling this can become even bigger potentially drawing in the elite from QL as well.

Now I'm sure some of you might be thinking I'm crazy for believing that any of the QL players actually have a chance challenging the elite CPM crowd in their own game without a substantial amount of time to practice, but once upon a time (2008 or 2009) a swedish vq3 player by the name of fox dominated and took 1st place at the last major CPM lan event which took place at DH (iirc) with only 2-3 weeks of practice.

Walter: i've never been impressed by him. he'll get destroyed unless he has improved a lot in the last few years.

Fox: fox was actually decent and i believe has a sick internet connection, which could get him an undeserved win or two(most euro cpmers have garbage inet). a top 5 finish wouldn't surprise me at all.

matr0x: his style is a lot different than active players, i think he'd get owned hard in this tourney.

latrommi - don't think he has the experience to place well, but i would like to see him play.

vo0: rusty, but he's pretty much a lock for a top 5 finish.

That is far from the truth. Fox was not an active CPM player as he was heavily involved into the competitive VQ3 scene, but he has a very long promode experience. You can find some records of his 10-year-old matches here, but unfortunately no demos are available.

Weird, I remember fox mentioning in an interview from back then that he only played clan arena with CPM settings prior to the event and how he only had 2-3 weeks to learn the maps. I also remember him mentioning not being able to do the circle jump to RA on cpm22 somewhere.

However, I only started playing quake in late 2008 so I'll take your word for it. Nevertheless, I still believe that there are a number of QL players whom with only a months worth of intensive practice could take this tournament.

1 month? i highly doubt it. cpm is too execution based for someone to do that. It's going to take longer than a month to perfect the muscle memory on every map.
fox/fazz could win with a month of praccy tho since they have experience. that wouldn't surprise me at all.

Another great matchup to watch. I've been hearing a lot of talk about s? lately, hearing that they may be the team to beat. They do have some fantastic aim and movement skills, but seem to be lacking any real teamwork or smart play. If what I'm told about CPM TDM holds true, their winning streak should come to a screeching halt starting this week with a team that has some real teamwork, Nobles. Ping will be an issue, but from what we've all seen from rat during the challenges tournaments, Nobles can handle a little setback in the ping department.

That's because that jump is way harder on cpm22 than on hub. You need 550 ups and where you start your jump is also more important.

You should see if arQon can also give the PMX source, I think some of the gameplay ideas tried there would improve a new CPM a lot like the new version of air control that doesn't prevent horizontal knockback as the current one does.

The problem is that when you're bunnying it's effectively impossible for knockback to push you left or right, hence flag runners being incredibly hard to stop. I am absolutely not calling for a reduction of control BTW, just to be clear. With regard to knockback please avoid hacks as much as possible. CPM had built up too many such as some weapons causing friction loss under knockback, others not. Knockback should not cause friction to change, that is another thing that needs fixing.

It depends entirely on how the bugs impact gameplay.

Double jumping and bunny hopping both create new and interesting gameplay (bugs or not) so these kinds of things should stay in.

What ix and I are talking about is a bug that prevents proper knockback being applied, making it difficult to knock a fleeing player off course. This can lead to boring/uninteresting gameplay in CTF (or any other mode when a player decides to run away).

So yeah, I agree with you -- some bugs should not be fixed, some bugs should be fixed and the deciding factor is always "what results in better gameplay?"

It's a behaviour I'd remove for more fundamental reasons unrelated to the trick anyway.

It's got a broken risk to reward value, the cost is very low. With a rocket jump you pay a significant health cost in exchange for speed and height.

Constant use of it would look ridiculous.

If you actually wanted the physics to be that fast why not just double the speed of normal movement? I don't think that level of speed would be good for the game.

I don't think it works in CPMA anyway does it? Only in Defrag where it's a fun trick and makes sense in that context.

The point on health cost versus speed reward is great, but DeFrag has already shown quite clearly that it's not an easy trick to use constantly. Most of the players often fail that and get speed gains far from the optimal even when not.

You're mistaken, the cost is not that low and the reward isn't that high. First of all it's nowhere near as easy as a rocketjump and you don't pay in health but in seconds because unlike a messed up RJ which sets you off with a lower than normal speed a messed up GB just leaves you standing in one place - you can imagine it makes it quite the gamble because even the best defrag players mess it up a good chunk of the time. Second it's limited in 2 plains of movement rather than 3. And third unlike the RL PG is not the default weapon - you can't be groundboosting and shooting effectively unless you have gosu micro. It's an awesome effect which I just view as another link in the evolution of CPM, but you think it's a gamebreaker. Let me be clear on that - it's not abusable, the geometry of regular maps, the fact that there are enemies and teammates all over them limit the use of this trick(it would be like a NOS, rather than a bigger engine the way you think). And no, it doesn't work in CPMA.

BTW were slicks castrated intentionally in CPMA or was it an unforseen consequence of fps independent physics?

They weren't intentionally broken, whatever the change that stopped them working was, was done before the trick was discovered as far as I'm aware.

The biggest point from my POV against them is that I'd remove the fundamental effect they rely on- friction changes during knock-back and start from there for reasons of cleanness of control and trying to reduce hacks in the physics.

In a case of tie match the player with least frags on two maps bans one of the remaining maps first.

Only thing I can see which I find a bit disturbing, different maps do tend to have different scorelines (toxicity/cpm22 vs cpm15), it just gives an edge to people who know the highscoring maps better. Coinflip nigs.

Again, this has nothing to do with his ability to help in organizing a tourney, but you're just too hysteric to be able to calm down.

I was the person who proposed the very idea of such donation during the last summer meeting. You can read the full description of that great event at promode.ru. Probably was the last time we got 2 veterans of russian promode together (ssh-l & CAiNE) :>
We all got fired up with this idea, started off slowly during the first weeks, but more and more people donated over the time. Most of us who took part in that meeting donated in the end, and some people outside Russia as well.
Regular donation was up to $100, including myself, for instance :>
Notably, Vladimir Polyakov a.k.a.

metal gave us a whopping 35000 RUR (approximately $1000 in PayPal conversion terms) for the good deeds.
We sincerely hope players would give it a good run on all stages, specifically in the Finals.

I choose to ignore this topic as a whole since nothing anyone says could change one's approach on zubich's game and his hacking attempts and/or accusations of it.
There's one thing for sure: he's an experienced organizer of many tourneys over the past years, including QIII (both vq3/CPM) and QL as well. He may be a hacker, but that doesn't take away his willing to help in making this event better. And he won't be participating, so there's probably not much of a problem to it.

look at it like this: with his hacking and his rage in the inzenity finals 34 ruined probably the biggest event in terms of exposure CPM has had in years. But luckily this tourney is probably going to be even bigger, giving the CPM community a chance to 'redeem' itself and show off how this game is actually played. This event should be as epic as possible. You, as one of the top players, would be doing the community a better service by playing than by boycotting, both long term and short term.

Why wouldn't Zubich own up and apologize in an attempt to stifle any confrontation and possible cup ruination (If it's so important to him and promode.ru) and why would anyone defend him and claim he isn't a cheater (when he clearly is) or that him cheating doesn't affect the cup in any way (when it obviously does). It's a matter of principle, nobody has time or respect for cheaters.

Let me put that clear. Zubich has obviously cheated and has obviously fakenicked at CPM competitions. That's not something to discuss. So you have a perfect reason not to play against him and not to trust him.

Still, personally I want the winners to receive my portion of the award no matter which country they are from and I'm sure other donators feel the same about it, so we'll be much more deceived than you would be if 34 doesn't do what he is supposed to. But the Russian community trusts him enough in that kind of things to ask him to keep the money until the fair end of the cup and send it to the winners properly. That's not even about you trusting zubich, that's about us entrusting our money to him, which we have already done.

So, I really don't get how his cheats and fakenicking affect the cup. Moreover, I'm pretty sure they won't affect it in any fashion. Since I have donated some money, I will be among the most disappointed people if something goes wrong, but I don't believe that's possible.

Unlike you, we are able to use logic. There's no any direct connection between all the shit keeping you on alert and the task of holding the money. Zubich has been sending money prizes for Russian cups numerous times and even has found most of the sponsors for those cups himself. He is definitely capable of doing that.
