I'm running windows 10 on two of my rigs since day one. First it was just plain crap but it's getting a lot better lately, it's easy to use and almost everything works as it should be....
I also dug myself quite deep into the MS ecosystem with my Windows phone, and the interaction between my phone and my computers becoming more and more polished with each update (on both). It has nothing to do with gaming, but I have to admit that I found myself really enjoying how smooth things can go when your win10 phone and your win10 computers are synced.

On the other hand, I also have to admit that I still feel a lot more comfortable on windows 7(but maybe it's just my age and I'm a little slow with big changes now).

Yes, that's actually a good one imo. The start screen is in the start menu now.

First of all, I really dislike Windows 8, so my opinion is surely biased.

It's hard to judge now since it's still beta but If I would need to describe it shortly, I would say that 8.1 vs 10 is like how Vista was vs 7. Install it on a small partition or VM it and decide for yourself imo.

- There is a new notification thingy next to the clock, which I really like because messages appear there now instead in a popup windows, so you don't need to "OK" them anymore, they just appear and disappear (like how messages in steam for example).

- DX12 will be a huge plus when games will start to support it. If nothing else, that alone is already makes it worthy for me.

- The universal app concept is really promising. I can't tell how far MS will go with it, but I like what I have seen til now. I have several apps what I bought on my phone and what I was able to install on the PCs too, and they are working just fine.
I think the plan is that whatever you have on your phone, PC or on your XBONE, is yours to run on any device running win10.

XBONE will also run w10 and dx12, so MS is basically turning it into a HTPC when it's not running in dedicated gaming mode. I also saw some tech talk where an MS guy said that if you buy an XBONE game in the future, you will be able to download it on your PC too (only if you are logged in with the same profile ofc).
I guess they finally admitted that the hardware is too weak to maintain a big gaming market share, so they are trying to reconquer some lost territory from Steam/Origin/etc on the desktop side.

But it's just too early for me to draw a conclusion, It might turn out to be too bloated and restricted on the long run....as I said, I still feel more comfortable on win7 after all.

EDIT: The main problem what I see now (and forgot to mention) is that (while it's still not mandatory,) it assumes a MS account even more than how 8.1 assumed one, and forcing the MS ecosystem on users might easily backfire imo, because it just sucks on so many areas compared to what the competition can offer for free (Steam vs LIVE or Bing vs Google for example).

haha MS is in fear to lose their desktop market share I see, so they decided to put even more crappy useless features in new version. Did they change anything really important (besides DX12 implementation) like improved control pane interface, accounts management, high resolution screens support, network connectivity etc?
Hope they will make it at least as good as Seven, not screwing up what already works...

Windows is the most used desktop OS on the world by far, but PS4, Steam and the others are competition on the gaming field, so I guess it's the logical choice to expand there.

A lot of things are new, Cortana for PC, Universal apps and store, new browser (Spartan), biometric logins, you can paste things into command prompt now (I like this one), seamlessly switch between desktop and tablet mode (it's called Continum), etc.... but everything else you mentioned just feels more polished imo. (to give you an example, you can now also alt-tab between multiply desktops as well.)

Free yourself and abandon the sinking ship and become part of the linux master-race. You might have to playmorepromode though, because no quack live for linux.

Just went to look at Motec engine management systems and they only work on Windows operating systems. Anything that is an external device/gadget whether its for cars, buildings, planes, photography...........etc.etc. is for Windows, and even they have problem with 64bit or latest version, often you see XP only. The only time you see the word Linux ever mentioned in the business world is when somebody talks about Servers.

I don't actually mind Linux distros but nobody ever makes anything useful outside their world. They mainly praise stability as a big feature when it comes to Linux.......oh yeah and no viruses.

tbh, there are polished versions of Linux - MacOS and iOS. So Linux expirience can be actually pleasant :)

I wasn't being very serious with my post, was more to bait people into discussing linux vs windoze.

I'm sure there are more than enough fields where linux or some bsd variant is being used. Might be more windows, but what do you expect with the market share it has? It doesn't have to stay that way tho! Also, I was mainly talking gaming - With valves steam machines etc. they are giving a huge boost to it, which is already noticeable with all the games being released for linux.

If no viruses and stability are the only positive aspects you can name for linux, then you don't really get the real point of it.

But every time I see their pathetic attempts to shove in metro style design, I can't understand why they try so hard with it and don't just drop it or make 2 completely separate UI versions, it just doesn't work in combination with classic style.

I absolutely hate every moment of interaction with it, be it settings menu or crippled start menu.

Only thing it reminds me is a shitty website with flash UI.

Personally, I don't mind the start page as a replacement to the start menu, because I never particularly used the start menu anyway. 1 keyboard shortcut to the start menu reveals a whole screen of shortcuts, rather than a short menu.

But it does take time to get used to. Especially when the charms occasionally inexplicably cease to function...
