Movie maker par excellence

sharpe has graced us with a new movie, featuring players from

xentorium.

Hi everyone, this is a movie I have been working on since Dreamhack. frs asked me to do the xentorium TDM movie and I was thrilled to do it. I edited everything but he helped a lot on resuscitating the old-school era of quake for the movie. I hope you guys enjoy this, and stay tuned for some next movies to come in the spring!

It is with great pleasure that I bring to you the release of Unrealnorth 2 by Vlad. The German movie-maker has been busy preparing his latest release for us...

UnrealNorth 2 has been a long time coming, with various movie-makers stepping up to do the title then losing the motivation or opportunity to continue. Vlad has had plenty of both and so is the one to finally bring us this epic movie for our great site and community. Many thanks to him for his time and effort!

Around 80 demos have been used from 30 players of the UnrealNorth community.Vlad will be taking a break from movie-making for a while, so enjoy his latest creation until such time as he decides to make another.

Thunderdome Starting Soon (17 comments)

Quakeworld: Thunderdome has seeded the initial divisions and is accepting late sign-ups. Players are encouraged to notify admins of any corrections in case someone has been misplaced in a division. Each division is scheduled to have a double-elimination bracket, which will be drawn up by 27 Feb 23:59CET at which point the games will begin!

Currently we have 97 players from 24 different countries filling out 5 divisions:

* Div0
* Pro
* Regular
* Advanced Rookies
* Rookie

Elite duelers are especially encouraged to register, as currently we are missing some of the heavy hitters such as nitram, mawe, milton, kingpin, locust, lacsap, avenger, lakso, etc., and we need them to make a true "div0" division. Let them know about the tourney and convince them to sign up for thunderdome! There will be a high def stream covering the best matches whenever possible.

Frazer "Fraze" Hockley has been living in Europe for the past 3 moths, since the last Dream Hack Winter competition in 2011. Fraze has been staying in the United Kingdom with his girlfriend, and been practicing a little bit of a duel in his time over. As he was known in Australian as a practice fiend he has been living up to reputation playing European duelers such as

madix,

GaRpY,

k1llsen and

strenx, just to name a few.

He has been more then happy with his progress while in Europe and is interested to compete in any big International Quakelive competition soon.

wonko from the #uscpmpickup channel are running a CPM Duel tourney for anyone willing to play. We are also working with Digital Duels to run this tournament as well, who is providing a server and GTV for the event. As always, Maverick Servers is also helping run and manage the servers.

Brackets and rules are available on the tournament site. The sign ups are open from now until the beginning of the tournament. You must be idling the tournament channel (#uscpmpickup) for as long as you are playing in the tournament.

Greetings fellow Quakers!

Andréas, also known as "zingao" will be making teasers about a monthly quakeworld tournament project hosted in Europe (but open to all.) There will be cash prizes, although at this point it is not clear how much. Most indicators point to a playhem type of tournament idea, except not daily but monthly or perhaps weekly. A live stream is in the works to cover the project.

I have posted an interview with

Fatal1ty over at www.thegamingcyclist.blogspot.com. We talk about whats going on in his life nowadays, quake, esports and esreality. Here is a snippet:

Thresh once said of you (in an ESR interview) ... "Fatal1ty plays a more methodical, running patterns type game, whereas I played a more thinking, strategic style game"... He also spoke about his slower, strategic style of play. Is it possible that such gameplay could withstand the ferociously fluid style most Pro-Gamers employ today? I'll cut to the chase ... do you think you would have beaten Thresh if you were both at the peak of your powers?

JW: I feel I played the game however it needed to be played to win the game. If a certain pattern was 100% effective, why not use it? As gamers got more complex to read and play against, I had to change my game to win the match. The game over the years has changed so much, so no one style is bullet-proof. Playing all the different games I've played, each game had a different way to play them, and if you tried to employ a q3 tactic in PainkilleR, it was impossible to win! I tried it, didn't work. I had to become more aggressive and more fierce with decisions and movement to bring the fight to me. I even had to change to no accel to play the game at optimal settings. As for the match between Thresh and me, we will never know. Thresh was a great player and I much enjoyed watching him when I was 15-16 years old.

Quakeworld: Thunderdome (29 comments)

VVD has announced Thunderdome, a unique tournament for quakeworld, and I'm helping him host it, along with

Adde,

Darkstorm and

pleuraXeraphim!

The main difference from Duelmania, Ownage and Showdown is a multiple division system with double elimination brackets. The intent is to allow all players of all skills to have a chance to win, rather than be brutally stomped on by higher skill players. It also affords the higher skill players a true challenge in every single game, and a real spectacle from the first round to the finals.

There will be divisions ranging from "div 0" to "true rookie" and the final number of divisions will depend on the total signups. Registration is open until February 25th, 23:59 CET. Running around in clan arena is one thing; playing an official duel with your adrenaline blasting is another! Go sign up.
