CPMA/Quake Europe LAN 2019 (82 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 12:34 CDT, 5 September 2018 - iMsg
UPDATE: (2018-11-18) Sadly the amount of players exceeds the amount of computers available at the NL and Prague LAN cafes. As of now (Nov. 18, 2018) the event is cancelled due to not being able to find a suitable location.

-----

Hello fellow Quakers, bringing back this thread has inspired some Promoders to consider a larger LAN for CPM in 2019, in Europe. Sadly the CPM community is small and we'd like to do something bigger.

Promode
We have currently setup a poll here for players interested in cpma CPM. For players in the CPM community I would ask that you complete this form so we can determine how many players are interested to see if this is a realistic plan.

Vanilla Quake 3, Quake Live, QuakeWorld
I was speaking to Finland gaiia last night and he suggested that maybe it would be fun if we could bring the VQ3/QL/QW communities into the mix. As such I am posting here to see if any of the community leaders in those respective games would be able to determine if their communities would be interested in such an event.

Community managers from these communities please contact me! You can contact me here, via email (xerosawyer@gmail.com) or on Discord.

Location & Time
We are currently looking at Czech Republic Prague, CZ and Netherlands Netherlands. This will be determined once we have a critical mass of players. We are currently looking at the month of June, 2019.

Cheers!

CPM TDM Draft Cup team overviews and expectations. (14 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 00:12 CST, 16 February 2018 - iMsg
The CPM TDM Draft Cup will be played on this Saturday February 17, 2018 starting at 09:00 CST. The format will depend on the number or registered teams and if there four teams or less, we will employ a round-robin system where points are awarded to map wins. If we get more than four teams than utilize a double elimination format, with a BO3 upper bracket, a BO1 lower bracket, with a BO3 lower bracket final, and BO3 grand final.

The tournament will be streamed on twitch playmorepromode.

Draft Selection

The draft included a total of 40 players, out of with the top eight (most willing) players agreeing to captain. The captains were placed in alphabetical order and then were thrown in a randomizer to determine the player selection order. The captains then picked, in a snaking order, until all the players were selected. We're hoping this method has allowed for the formation of eight competitive teams where the likelihood of close and entertain games are high and blow-outs are rare (fingers crossed). This is the first TDM in some time so teams hopefully make best use of the time available of them in the upcoming in terms of discussing strategies and finding practice.

Teams Overview

This is a quick rundown of my thoughts and my general opinions on the teams and this is by no means an objective analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. I think all the teams have certain qualities which they should be looking to strengthen as well as certain weaknesses which they should attempt to mitigate. I don't have any explicit predictions as I realize the format does not afford much opportunity to prepare, however, there are some reasonable superficial inferences that we can make.

CPM TDM Draft (13 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 18:54 CST, 5 February 2018 - iMsg
The upcoming TDM Draft Cup will be split into two portions, a draft, and a cup. These events will take place on separate weekends with the draft scheduled for next Sunday and the cup taking place the following Saturday. We're hoping the week in between gives players an opportunity to practice and/or figure out how to play with their team mates.

The Draft

The draft will take place on Sunday February 11, 2018 starting at 11:00 CST. Captains will be selected from the pool of registered players and the captains will then pick out their teams. The players are not required to be live during the draft but they will be contacted before the draft to ensure that they will be available for the cup, which takes place the weekend following the draft.

Players can register to the draft by joining the cpma CPMA Discord and messaging Canada xero to register. When registering please provide the following information:

• TDM Experience.
• Preferred role: Captain, Carry, Support, Coach.

Once registered players will be recorded into a public player list, and can be asked to removed at any point up to the draft. We're hoping to get eight teams so we need at least 32 players to register!

The Cup

The cup will be played on Saturday February 17, 2018 starting at 09:00 CST.

We will be using a ban, ban, pick, pick, ban, ban system in the upper bracket and the lower bracket games will be six straight drops (three (3) per team).

Maps: avrdm1b, cpm4, cpm18r, cpm21, cpm26, cpm27 & osp5.

The event will be streamed live on twitch playmorepromode.

CPMA 1.50 & CNQ3 1.49 Released (95 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 13:41 CST, 7 January 2018 - iMsg
After a lengthy hiatus in terms of development CPMA and CNQ3 have both received major updates, which are now live. CPMA (the mod) moves up to version 1.50, and CNQ3 (the engine), moves up to version 1.49. These updates have been made with the goal of improving the experience for both veterans and beginners alike without compromising what the core values of the game. With that said, the expectations for these updates were to: fix existing bugs, improve existing features, and introduce new quality-of-life features.

This update also marks a significant shift in the staff as Switzerland myT takes over the lead programmer role from Russia qrealka / United Kingdom arQon, assisted by Netherlands Terifire, New Zealand df providing art, United Kingdom ix on design, and Norway Fjoggs in operations/support. Before we get started, I think it's important to iterate that there are no game play changes.

Even though the team has been thorough in their attempt to identify bugs, we do not expect that this release is bug-free, and as such request players to submit any bugs they encounter via commenting in this thread. Please identify your hardware, and the bug, including how it can be recreated.

You can download CPMA 1.50 and CNQ3 1.49 from www.playmorepromode.com.

To play CPMA you will need the mod files and ideally CNQ3. CNQ3 is a free improved executable (engine) for running Quake III Arena on Windows and Linux. It is the official engine for CPMA. It is not necessary, but highly recommended when available for your platform.

Little (but important) changes...

There are a couple of smaller changes which should be noted off the bat as slightly alter some older conventions. These are all fairly innocuous changes in both the engine and the mod but it is important to highlight them as they are potentially impactful shifts. Please note that I have arranged them below for both engine and mod:

Bigger (significant) changes

Below are some of the bigger additions and updates in the current patch. These updates -- which sadly do not include loot boxes, cosmetics or pay-to-win features, constitute one of the heftier updates in Promode history in terms of features and fixes. These updates will significantly improve the experience of getting into the game and provide a veterans with a slew of quality-of-life improvements. As always, all of these settings can be turned-off if players do not wish to use them.

Bugs & Fixes

As mentioned in the introduction, the aim of this update has been to improve the playing experience for veterans and beginners alike. A large portion of this means discovering, reproducing, and finally fixing bugs, or taking existing processes and improving them. Thanks myT, Terifire and the various testers, lots of bugs have been finally removed from the game including the infamous spec bug, global events missing (e.g. flag pick-ups and frag messages being missed) bug, etc... From the length of the change log I think it's clear a lot of small to large sized bugs have squashed and this means a better player experience.

Bug Reports: Please report any bugs you find in CPMA 1.50 in the comments section of this post.

Website & Guides for guides (for guides)

A major part of this CPMA update has also been to update the existing CPMA homepage and accompanying documentation. For a long time, finding solutions to simple problems went wading through various, poorly formatted, and out of date, .txt files. Now, you can head over to www.playmorepromode.com and have immediate access to current documentation for pretty much every variable, sorted in orderly fashion. We have big(ger) things planned for the website set in 2018 but for now this should serve as a good knowledge base.

Announcing the #cpmduel League (16 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 14:46 CDT, 29 October 2017 - iMsg
We're proud to announce the #cpmduel League which will kick-off on November 11, 2017. This will be a weekly league, where players are split into three divisions: Invite, Main, and Beginner, and play other players in their respective division each week. After players have played all their group opponents once, the top players of every group, will face their rivals in the same division in a single elimination play-off bracket. Due to the nature of this league, things will be a little sophisticated, and we anticipate having different rules in terms of play-off advancement for the different divisions as they will have a different amount of players.

The admin group includes: Czech Republic neverGreen, Finland gaiia, and myself (Canada xero), with Slovakia Kimi|AHK, Russia DEZ, and Russia veliars acting as referees.

CPMA CTF Draft Cup (8 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 23:18 CDT, 24 August 2017 - iMsg
We'll be hosting a CTF draft cup on Saturday September 2, 2017. The event will have two distinct portions, the first will be the draft itself, where players are organized into teams, and once that is completed, we will begin playing the games. The draft portion will start at 08:30 CST, with games scheduled to start at 09:30 CST.

Map List: q3wcp1, ct3ctf1, fjo3ctf3, q3wcp9, q3wcp14.

If you're not familiar with this format, how it works is quite simple. From the final player list a small number of players will be selected to be captains, who will then pick players in a snaking order, until all registered players have been selected. We will use a double elimination format, with all matches in the upper bracket being played as BO3, all matches in the lower bracket as a BO1, and the grand final as BO5. We're hoping this will actually allow us to finish this time.

To register, plese join the cpma CPMA Discord Server and message Canada xero to be added to the draft list.

Kenya Cup Frag Competition Videos, Voting & Highlights (15 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 18:36 CDT, 10 July 2017 - iMsg
Last Saturday we hosted the CPMA Kenya Cup and an interesting component of this cup was that there was a best frag reward given to the player for, you guessed it, the best frag. This idea was implemented and financed by long time Promoder Norway Fjoggs who put produced all the videos below. Now the community will be get to vote their favorite frag and determine who gets the prize money. Additionally Fjoggs put together these videos into a nice clean highlight package (which you can also find below).

Best Frag Competition Videos & Voting

This event had 25.00 EUR on the for the best frag of the cup, with an additional 5.00 EUR going to the player on the receiving end of the frag, and overall nine frags/moments were selected. People now can cast their vote via strawpoll. The order below is the order of the videos in the playlist, and players can vote by simply selecting the corresponding number. Voting will close on Saturday July 15, 2017. Thank you!

Highlights

All of the above was stitched together with some nice effects, music and caster hype (mainly Germany nekon) into a highlight package by, once again, Mr. Fjoggs. I think it would be worth while to watch it to the very end as there may or may not be a hint about a CTF Draft Cup in the not-so-distant future. :)

CPMA Kenya Cup 2017 (46 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 19:33 CDT, 27 June 2017 - iMsg
Netherlands Terifire & The CPMA Community will be hosting a duel kenya cup this July 8, 2017 starting at 07:00 CST. This will be an open event, and players from all regions are welcome to play with the caveat that players will mostly be playing on Europe European and CanadaMexicoUnited States of America North American servers. The event will be streamed by nekon on his channel on twitch nekonTV.

Register: Players must join the CPMA Discord Server & challonge sign-up via challonge. You'll find all the rules on the challonge page as well. For players who are unfamiliar with this format a kenya cup is a tournament which uses non-standard maps. However the tournament format will be quite familiar with most players, as we will be employing a double elimination bracket, with a BO3 upper bracket, and a BO1 lower bracket.

Update: dojo-b5 has been updated, you can download it here, and the map pack has been updated to reflect this change. Regarding weapon respawn times, it is five (5) seconds on all maps.

Update II: Thanks to Norway Fjoggs we now have a monetary prize pool, the breakdown of which is as follows:

Entrants must send their cut demos (you can use UDT to cut demos easily) containing the frag to fjoggis@gmail.com. Once all entrants have been uploaded to the YouTube CPMA YouTube Channel the community will take vote on the best frag.

This event we will be using six new maps and the map pool is: calendar and Fata Morgana by Netherlands Terifire, dojo-b5 by United States of America Scorch, fjo3tourney6-b3 by Norway Fjoggs, Quickfire by United States of America greed, and Trespass by United States of America Pat Howard. You can download the map pack here. All these maps, with the exception of Trespass, are being developed by their respect mapper and constructive feedback would be appreciated. It also provides the potential for newer players a chance to show their skills and maybe surprise veterans that have been grinding cpm22 for decades.

Edit: New map by ninemil. Will not be a part of the tournament, but check it out anyway!

The Promode League -- Week Three (10 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 17:59 CDT, 9 May 2017 - iMsg
We're now in the final week of games for the regular season with Week 2 all wrapped up. Week 3 contains a lot of important games as many play-off spots are still up for grabs. As you'll see in this week's results, the games were again quite one-sided however there were a couple of great matches, and lots of great performances. As usual, you be able to find the predictions and bets for Week 2 below.

Week 2 Results & VODs

Week 2 once again was largely characterized by decisive games but as a result it also meant that we got to see some very strong performances. It's now become clear that Europe 2 Retards, Russia Promode.RU and United States of America ProMode Admins are a cut above the rest. All of these teams demonstrated great mechanic skills, awareness, and strategy. I would recommend catching games just to get an idea of how good teams are working, and thinking.

Our match of the week for this week goes to Argentina MANGERIS vs United States of America fitemeIRL. There was some great hpb Quad work by Argentina atp who was constantly battling to keep his team in the game, with his partner Argentina loner trying to shore up the offence. The games on Left Behind, and Sanctum had larger scores difference but it always felt like that the Argentinians were one strong cycle away from turning the tide in their favor. The Americans took turns playing hard carry, with United States of America pan1c coming through with a massive game on Santcum, and United States of America Chains taking over on The Hot Place.

Week 3 Predictions & Bets

For this week's predictions I was joined by our very own United States of America Magikarp. The games for this week should be a lot closer with 2 Genders going up against Bald and Beautiful in Group A, CZSK squaring off against Okidoki in Group B, GetServed challenging fitemeIRL in Group C, and finally RuN playing teotl in Group D. All of these games will have very significant play-off implications, as the losers will most likely having to pack up their mice. The game to watch for this week will be 2 Retards vs Sandels which is scheduled for May 11, 2017 at 13:00 CST and will be streamed on [icon=twitch] nekonTV.

Group B is at a complete deadlock for the second play-off spot with CZSK, Okidoki, Team Spain all tied up in points. As we've said a few times if the real Spain memphis-hady show-ups, it's going to be a game changer, but he continues to be an enigma.

Magikarp Disclaimer: Reminder that I have only joined the CPMA community in August 2016, so my knowledge on the players or even just how players play is still minimal. This is just my personal opinion from what I think, know, and believe from whatever I could remember about these players and can infer. I would say not to take this prediction too seriously.

The Promode League -- Week Two (18 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 22:56 CDT, 1 May 2017 - iMsg
With Week 1 games all wrapped up, we enter into Week 2 of games for The Promode League. Below you will be able to find the results for Week 1, including their match pages (which contains match details as well as links to their respective VODs), and predictions/bets for Week 2.

Week 1 Results & VODs

Although Week 1 apparently features quite decisive games, there were some great games regardless. Our match of the week goes to Canada PERIOD vs. Mexico teotl. Even though PERIOD ended up winning all three maps, they were are all quite hotly contented games. As anticipated, the old-school veteran Canada Kwong-Lo carried the heavy load, with United States of America dys filling big shoes for Canada gellehsak who could not play. I would highly recommend to check out the very last game on The Hot Place (pukka3dm1).

I would also recommend Argentina MANGIERIS vs. United States of America GetServed. Both these teams are relative newcomers to CPMA, and both showed great competency in the game.

Week 2 Predictions & Bets

This week's predictions are brought to you by myself, United States of America naper, and Czech Republic neverGreen. Now that we know what shape the teams there will be less of an x factor when it comes to making accurate predictions, I think.

The Promode League -- Week One (63 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 00:32 CDT, 28 April 2017 - iMsg
A few weeks ago, we took a quick poll to see if there was any interested in CPMA 2V2 League. To my surprise we've been able to get 16 (technically 20) teams to enter a short league-style event.

The first week of The Promode League will officially kick-off this Saturday April 29, 2017, with a few games already scheduled, and rest almost ready. We have now released the full schedule, available below. Teams are welcome to schedule and play all their games as soon as possible.

We'll be bringing weekly updates, predictions, and bets. Russia Ryan_H has been kind enough to produce us a quick promotional video, showing off Left Behind, Sanctum, and The Hot Place.

Schedule & Rosters

Predictions

A couple of chimed on with our opinions on this week's matches, who we thought would win, and win.

Russia Ryan_H released his latest Promode production showcasing mid airs, juggles, combos, spawn frags, flicks, and luck. He uses a very clean and fidelitous config making the game look surprisingly nice. As is now sorta expected from him, all of this is mixed in with great editing and music.

The frags showcased were collected in the past few months by United States of America naper.

CPMA KOTH Cups (19 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 15:16 CST, 24 November 2016 - iMsg
The Challenge Promode community will be hosting two King of the Hill events on Saturday November 26, 2016, which will cater to European, and North American players.

King of the Hill events are pretty straight forward: Players show-up on match day, and register, and once the event begin, registered players will be filtered into a queue. The event will begin with the two weakest players dueling in a BO1, The winner of which continues to play all challengers until they lose, at which point they will placed at the end of the player queue. Basically winner stays on. Challengers get to select the map, and the entire event will occur on a single server. Yes, you can play in both events ;)

• The first cup will be a Europe European King of the Hill tournament, which will begin at 11:00 CST.
• The second cup be a CanadaMexicoUnited States of America North American King of the Hill tournament, which will begin at 17:00 CST.

To register, all you have to do is join the CPMA Discord on the day of the event and ask Canada xero (me) to be add you to the queue. Remember to tell me which region you're from! Once confirmed, you will be given an appropriate Discord Role, which will identify you as a competitor in the event.

The events will streamed live via Canada dr0_vision, with resident Promode expert Denmark black, co-casting the European event.

Talking To Masters - A Question of CPM (40 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 11:30 CST, 20 November 2013 - iMsg
Hi guys, in preparation of the CPM Masters Final, I decided to ask some of the players a few questions (let's just call it a mini-interview), in hopes of familiarizing the community with the participants. I did try to get in touch with all the players, but unfortunately did not get responses from everyone. However, a number of players did respond, providing for insightful, funny, and at times down right strange looks into our lovely community.

This tournament will commence this Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 09:30 CST, and will be streamed via United Kingdom NoProblemTV, United Kingdom ddk, United Kingdom BunnyHopTV and Russia PM.RU.

And onto the topic of our discussion, the interviews, enjoy!

Just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have worked hard to help realize this tournament, especially Czech Republic neverGreen!!!

PROMODE MASTERS DUEL CUP 2013 UPDATE (4 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 11:23 CDT, 30 October 2013 - iMsg
Hi guys,

Just wanted to clarify some things that have been discussed with respect to this tournament.

There is a lot of talk about Zubich/34, and his involvement. As far as I am aware, he will NOT be playing, and he will NOT act as an administrator/referee. He has been given the donations, from the promode.ru community, to hold on to, and disperse.

This is what has been communicated to me by Zubich/34, and the other admins.

I am aware of the concern that has been opined in the forums, and we are trying our best to ensure the success of this tournament.

There will a more comprehensive update later this week. Unfortunately, I am currently sick :P

Thank You,

P.S. Although not listed in the initial article, I have been asked to help administrate this tournament.

Blackout: Week Two Results & Stuff. (9 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 00:18 CST, 14 February 2013 - iMsg
Week two of Blackout was some what disappointing with four games being decided for forfeiture, however, four teams managed to schedule two games, so not everything was lost. Unfortunately, due to the hacking judgement against 34_, his clan Russia Promode.RU have decided to withdraw from the tournament in protest. Additionally, United States of America opk have also expressed to withdraw from the tournament due to the forfeit decision against them. As a result there are now twelve teams in the tournament.

That is the bad news, however, the good news is that week three will be the BIGGEST week of Blackout, without the top two teams of each continent facing each other, as Sweden The Russian Eights square off against Finland Dumbledore's Army and Canada Heffalumps try to take down United States of America red.

Promode.RU 34_ Decision (24 comments)
Posted by xero- @ 15:49 CST, 9 February 2013 - iMsg
Blackout is disappointed to announce that Russia 34_, a player from the team Promode.RU, has been banned for cheating, specifically, wall hacking in the week one game against Teamless, which occurred on Sunday, February 3, 2013. After a careful and considered review of the PM.RU vs. Teamless game, on the basis of the opinions of the admins and other community players consulted for opinions, as well as though who had given unsolicited opinions, the admins have ruled to permanently banned 34_. What complicated this situation was that Promode.RU was fake-nicking, and it became difficult to identify players, and in the first map, cpm21, the player "dez" is actually 34_.

As a consequence, and to further ensure fair play, players from Promode.RU will have to have their IPs verified before a game, and during the game, by an admin.

As a further consequence the match outcome will be reversed and Teamless will be awarded with 9-0 win. Promode.RU will forfeit any points gained from that match.

Thank you for all that helped with this matter -- much appreciated!

The decision can be found here.

Hey guys, how many hockey fans are there on ESR? It's a huge sport here in Canada and does well in the American north east.

Do you any of you Swedes/Finns/Russians/Belarussians follow NHL?

Hey guys, so reddit is a pretty easy to use website which allows people to submit links/contents and they are upvoted and downvoted by users. More upvotes = more likely to be on the front page. There are additional subreddits e.g. /r/gaming or /r/cpma (www.reddit.com/r/cpma) which have active communities.

Anyway, so /r/gaming has ~750K suscribers, and it lists the most suscribed video games too (right hand side). Could you guys susbcribe to so we get on that list, currently, some shit game sits @ 10 with 100 suscribers. /r/cpma requires another 70 of you guys to suscribe!

C'mon!!!!!!!!

Hi guys, (again)

I wanted to let you guys know that I started a cpm subreddit (www.reddit.com/r/cpm).

In many ways it is redundent as we already have ESR, but maybe we can expose some non-q3 players to the greatness of cpm by posting up frag videos? (I don't know else, maybe link cpm related posts from esr to reddit)

Anyway, please submit things and maybe we can get a couple of more people interested?

Thanks,

Hey, do any of you guys watch this show / read this book? I'm currently half way through A Dance with Dragons (Book 5/7) and was wondering what your thoughts are. Which character would you be and what house would you belong too?

Enjoy,

Scheduled: 12:00 CST, 24 January 2009 to 17:00 CST, 24 January 2009
Schedule: Passed

Hihi! Well, as there has been a long absence of 2v2 from the "competitive" scene (lol) I have decided to organize one for you hippies. I will be talking to some members of the community to get GTV/Shoutcasting as well as having the servers prepared. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to contact me as a couple of referees would be nice. As it stands there is only 8 slots, if there is enough interest i will make it 16.

E-mail me your rosters, with team name, captain and means of contact before January 20, 2009!

Hey guys,

I was just chatting to Rondrian of ESL North America regarding possible cpm cups/leagues and he wanted a general idea of what North American players thought of that, how many would be up for it and what kind of tournaments players are looking for? Anyhow, leave comments/remarks below.

Thanks!

*EDIT* Please spread this link around, need as many replies as possible, thanks!

Seems there is no apparent reason for this... it's a shame, cpm. masters was being run perfectly and then one of the admins decides it is best to act like an idiot.
